For those who do not know..many of those who sought Refuge here, under special asylum status 15 years or more ago, are living in a community in Rhode Island. Many in that community are now being given deportation orders since the US has decided that their home country is now "Safe". Safe to people from this, and many african nations is a fleeting idea. Since unstable governments rise and fall quickly there. Further, while there may not be an active war, there are still huge economic and social issues to contend with. These families, who have come here, built lives here, built companies here, built families here, now are possibly "out of status" "running out of status" being forced to decide whether or not to leave their children behind here to continue their educations, lives, or to bring them with them to a country thier children have never known, and an impoverished way of life their children have never known. They are also running out of appeals. These people were here legally, and came to America for all the right reasons, and now may be deported, because our government has decided their time is up. This is a recurrant theme in the immigration debate, and one that few people ever hear anything about. Immigration isn't just about those who cross the Mexican border, and yet, people wish to paint it with the same brush.
