Hezbollah wants to "rescue Lebanon" [sic].
BEIRUT (Reuters)- Hezbollah gunmen battled supporters of the government on Sunday on the fifth day of a campaign by the Iranian-backed group that has dealt a severe blow to Washington's allies in Lebanon. The fighting in Aley, a town in the mountains overlooking the capital, and nearby villages killed at least eight people. Hezbollah, which is also backed by Syria, and its allies have in recent days routed pro-government gunmen in Beirut in Lebanon's worst civil strife since the 1975-1990 civil war. The drive by Hezbollah to take control of strategic locations has increased pressure on the governing coalition, supported by the United States and Saudi Arabia, to accept the opposition's terms for ending 18 months of political conflict. http://www.canada.com/topics/news/world/story... |

Katyusha rocket from Lebanon draws Israeli artillery barrage
"Wednesday, October 28, 2009 BEIRUT: A Katyusha rocket fired from Lebanon hit northern Israel on Tuesday night without causing any casualties, prompting Israel to retaliate with an artillery barrage, sources on both sides said. The attack, which was not immediately claimed, was the latest incident in growing cross-border tensions, and an Israeli military spokeswoman laid ultimate blame for it at the door of the Beirut government. " What Lebanese government? Oh, the "lebanese" government, hezblala who likes to bring about Israeli bombings on their people. 1 “Disbanding militias in Lebanon especially Hizbullah is of vital importance to the country’s democracy and sovereignty,” Larsen said. In response, Hizbullah said the report was “insolently biased” and aimed to cover up for “the true side responsible for the region’s instability,”– a reference to Israel. “[The report] is scandalous and catastrophic since it masks the real reason behind instability in Lebanon and the region which is represented by the continuous Israeli violations to UN resolutions as well as Lebanese sovereignty,” the statement said. I don't understand (not that I'm interested) what one has to do with the other. Let's say Israel threatens Lebanon, why does this prevent unity of all "militias" around one government in Lebanon? |
