Meteorite-Like Object Falls in Latvia

Uldis Nulle, a scientist at the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center, said there was smoke coming out of the crater when he arrived at the crash site late Sunday in the Mazsalaca region near the Estonian border.

This is only a glimpse of things to come. There are too many meteors to predict where one might not burn up and strike the earth. Having such a strike in a populated area would have been problematic. As long as it does not effect many people, as in this event, there is no cause for concern amongst those that may be affected in the future.
