Laos has the lowest UNDP human development index of all South East Asia.

50% of children suffer from malnourishment, and 40% exhibit stunted growth.

27% of people live below $1 a day; 75% of people live with less than $2.

Education remains poor; the Laos government allocation for education is among the lowest in the world.

In rural areas, almost two fifths of people have no access to safe drinking water.

-According to the result of LECS, the total proverty line is kip 92,052 while the proverty lines is resptesents an amounts of kip 68,964.

-The population of poor under the total proverty lines and food proverty line are 1.68 and 1.58 millions, respectively.

Some characteristics of poor assets and liabilities.

33.6% of the poor do not have their own land,
45.9% of the poor do not have television,
38.3% of the poor do not have radio,
35.8% of the poor do not have sewing machine,

Some characteristics of the poor access to infractures.

42.2% of the poor do not have clean waters,
45.7% of the poor do not have electricity,
49.4% of the poor cannot access to road,
38.7% of the poor cannot access to market,
34.1% of the poor cannot access to health cares,
32.8% of the poor cannot access to hospital,

Laos under the Viet rules have gone 35 years backward. Kaysone and Ho is the masters of Stone Age.

if any of you came from laos should not again how poor were.but thinking about how to support laos to have a better future that you should talk about.we all from laos yes or no you are laos fresh.

anyway, i think what these people were talking about it, it is just the truth of it. i am very don't see a way that you can give lao gov. a support to make it things better in the future. if you don't believe it, go ahead go back there and share him (lao gov.) your smarty knowledges....let's see what you will get for return.

I never been back to Laos so I don't really know what it is really like back there. I left when I was about 13 yrs old. I still remember some stuffs. Friends and family who went and visit seem to have a story to tell. What surprise me is that they didn't mentioned anything negative about Laos. The people seem to be happy and upbeat. Which I think is a good thing. Laos(landlocked) will never become an economic powerhouse like a U.S due to bad infrastructure and poor skill labors. So there is no comparison. What they do have is the natural resources(hydro power, mining, & plantation). I think the corruption is bad in Laos and eventually all the old leadership will die out. Until then I hope they'll be someone with a better idea, leadership skills, and hopefully he/she can lead Laos to a better tomorrow in peace.

Laos is very rich in natural resources, but soon it will be gone. cuz, Laos government have sold all the natural resources to the chinese for gold mining. Laos government is rich, but the citizen are dirt poors.

Y'all have to travel back to Laos to see it, if y'all do, don't just stay in Vientaine for the young girls. Go little farther out to the countryside you'll see and know exactly what I mean. The two town next to the Plain of Jars is really dirt poor.

How would you know? You're not lao-chien and you didn't see our country 30 years ago to compare to how it looks now. You didn't know how big those trees, the hills, mountains, rivers, and the people were. How could you just spit out nonsenses when you don't even have a slight clue of what's happening to Laos? We're seeing the destruction of Laos' forest and the natural resources disappear overnight yet we can't even say anything, do you know why? When your mind only occupies the thought of your next dog meat meal, how would you know our feelings? The best thing for lao government to do is begging us the laos in all other countries to come back. If that happened, we'll forget the past and pour out our ideas and money to rebuild the country of Million Elephans to its past glorious day without hesitation.

We need more people like you in Laos to stand up. This is what happen when you have someone with no education running the country. Let alone they can't think for their self. The Chinese will squeeze everything out of Laos.
