HI all,

I am a Portuguese living in Singapore for a short while and I would love to spend some time travelling around some of the more deserted parts of the Pacific. The goal is to meet local indegenous people, enjoy their way of living, do some line fishing and photo. Diving if possible too.

Ideally I would fly somewhere and then travel from island to island by boat. I have some experience sailing. And I have no need for hotel beds.

I am planning to go sometime next year after March to avoid the wet season. What's the best period? How easy and safe is it to travel around Kiribati?

Any suggestions or ideas welcomed.

thanks for your help

The e-Kiribati are wonderful people. I have been there as volunteer four times and looking forward to going again early next year.

thanks for your advise, but can you tell me if it's easy to travel from island to island, to deserted island and stay there some time?

Any dangers I should be aware of?

thanks again

Hi Goncalo
There is no danger while visiting Kiribati, it is easy to travel from Island to Island as there are lots of ships and also private airplane company....there is a ferry that route to most of the island in Kiribati. and if you want to visit Christmas Island...that where is a place to catch bone fish....the biggest world record from USA...cheers

Hey Goncalo. It is very easy to travel between islands especially on a nice. But I recommend you should travel with someone from Kiribati who could tell what the weather will be like.Sometimes the day is beautiful for traveling, but once you start your journey to the other island, sometimes the weather would change to rain, windy.
But a lot of people there could help you 100% in that kind of situation.
And I know some people there who could go with you to dive.I went diving a lot on Tarawa island while I was there.

Hi Goncalo,
Make contact with Kiribati Tourism (located in Tarawa), they will be able to assist with information about inter-island travel and hook you up with locals to give you advice. I spent about three months in Tarawa last year and spent time travelling to the outer islands it was fantastic. Enjoy

Hi what role were your there in as a volunteer? I am considering going to Kiribati as a volunteer and would welcome more information about your experiences - how long were you there for? What did you do on your off time? etc Thanks Deb

Yes, Adrian, how did you become a volunteer and what were you doing? I'd love to do something like that

Hi
I am going there in June as a volunteer nurse for three months. I am so looking forward to this. If anyone is able to link me up to locals for information I would be much appreciative?

This is really interesting Wenday, are you going with an aid organisation? I'd love to do that! I'll be visiting Kiribati in July too.

Mauri everyone,

It was nice hearing good comments about my home island Kiribati on this site. I agree with everyone else's comment saying that Kiribati is one of the safest place on earth to visit.

Travelling from one island to another is no longer an issue now a days in Kiribati. They have domestic flight every week that covers all part of the Island as well as ferries and sails boat that you can use to travel from one place to another.

I would like to share a social networking site for Ikiribati. This is the site http://www.kiribationlinecommunity.com an it's free to join.
You can meet over 6,000 Ikiribati people on the site and ask a local Ikiribati person any question you would like to ask and they will be more than happy to assist you.

Have a safe trip to Kiribati and enjoy your time over there.

Tekeraoi am trip.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Sagittarius

You're feeling ultra optimistic today, which is great for summoning up the necessary energy to do what has to be done. But don't let it go to your head and convince you that you're capable of performing miracles. If you aren't behaving in this way you'll have to cope with someone who has a swollen head and thinks they're the cat's whiskers.
