I recently read this new biography on Raila Amolo Odinga, 2007 Kenyan Presidential Election Candidate. It is very interesting, objective and provocative and anyone with a serious interest in African/Kenyan political history needs to read this book.

Check out more information at www.badejo-on-raila.com

{Excerpt}
Raila Odinga: An Enigma in Kenyan politics, a book by Dr. Babafemi Adesina Badejo traces the journey of one individual, Raila Amolo Odinga, as he negotiates the treacherous political terrain of post-independence Kenya. His achievement is to render accessible both the complex political history of Kenya and the personal story of one of the most influential and controversial actors on the contemporary Kenyan political scene. "Raila Odinga: An Enigma in Kenyan Politics" is an excellent introduction for the uninitiated to the complex landscape of Kenyan politics.

Raila Odinga has spent most of his political life manoeuvring himself for power. He has been in out of more political parties than any other politician of his age. He is the only politician know to encourage others to vie for the presidency while he is pursuing the same, He is described as a smart operator but is he really an enigma or narcissistic personality?

The man Raila Odinga is the best politician in Kenya and in the entire Africa, Mr Garan'g De Mabior of Southern Sudan whould second Raila in tactic playing.

His political ralies has proved atractive, well planned and organised. His is able to read the signs of the time and can tell what the people need to hear at any given time.
His move to and out of KANU, The formation of ODM and the lounch of his biography are all timely.

An honest politicians doesn’t stand a chance in the Kenyan political scene, they will be outdone by those who have mastered the game of creating mass hysteria, all in the falsehood of fighting for them. Leaders who depict an almost neurotic hunger for power have turned out to cause immense human damage once elected. We don’t need leaders who’s "the self" power gratification is all too obvious.

Raila Odinga, those who love him, love him to death and those who hate him wish him death. Why would they wish him death? Because he stands in the way of most corrupt and lazy politicians. Raila is a true enigma. He is a real nationalist and not a tribalist. People who hate him will say whatever they want to say about him, but deep in their hearts, they wished they had the courage and charisma that he has. Second, let's be diplomatic and post constructive comments and stop insults and confrontational comments. I know kenyans are smart enough unless....

Given that I am a prostitute I take GREAT offence at anyone imagining there is anything wrong with my reasoning. Others wash toilets, I CHOOSE to spend my time in PLEASURE. Plus it pays BIG bucks, and a really really comfy pension to boot/booty (Whichever you like)

I bet you I have more money in the bank than you'll ever have and a higher education than you'll get in two lifetimes.(A Phd, three Masters and the usual undergrad). I've had more pleasure and judging from your parochial comments am better adjusted as an individual than you.

You are the kind of self righteous little minded people who cannot see beyond their ?penises/vaginas? Because you only view the world from between your legs.(prostitute, non-prostitute). Sorry, the world is bigger than you and your little egos.

About Raila, now that's a man I will be voting for and putting into state house next year. You can drown in your sorrows for all I care. I know where the best interests of the nation lie. Plus I know the best screws, and the worst ones too.

Who's screwing who now???

This country would never have moved to where it is in terms of Democratic gains if there was no Raila Odinga. As a kenyan i would like to see how Raila will behave when he becomes the next president of kenya. He is too powerful to be criticised and too smart,he seems to know what to do at any given time.

For all Kenyans, who want to see a complete overhaul of the democratization process and governance, including delivery of a modern constitution, commensurate with our times, this is the man to support, for he has, among other qualities, capabability for the requirements above and has the route map to state house...

Could that silly man living in Huddinge Sweden who is not even brave enough to state their name and talks rubbish at every post please give progressive elements of society some space to dialogue?

Plus thanks to Prostitute for keeping him/her in their rightful position, and speaking your piece so well.

Like many other Kenyan's who have watched with dismay our Nation sink further into an abyss of nepotism, tribalism from the highest office and parochial self interest, I will be home next year to vote for Raila.

I agree with Prostitute, though not necessarily with her language. Kenya needs Raila like never before. And WE TOGETHER UNITED shall put him where he will serve the Nation...

Kudos

My names are David Chome Munga aged 41 resident at Bahari Constituent in Kilifi District in Bahari constituency Kilifi District there’s land problem which has (existed) for generation. None of the local politician ever here solved that problem.
All around I appeared to open be solved at last. I mobilized the people state, Vipingo estate ltd, Kilifi plantation and others.

We managed to institute the case against the above; misc application no 656 of 2003 file no. HC 21 2004 Mombassa high court. We have been trying to push this case to reach the end, but due to the past experiences the people are reluctant to do note as corruption have existed in the established societies.

Personally I have issued = to, seek some a venues that I may meet you thro (some well known people who are close to you i.e. Dr.and your personal assistant Mr.Muganda.
The reason that I have wished to contact you are that being a presidential candidate in the next general election, you need to grassroots support, which is firm and tangible in the constituency and regional level.
The people wish to have this problem solve once and for all. And once this done either or whole I will introduce you to them.
You Hon we re looking for a financial in this a case that it may be solved/heard. Your backing/support in this case will be of much importance and will build confidence in your campaign
This case is a constitutional one and once we can achieve our objectives in the ten miles coastal strip and the ordinance will be over as the con= can direct parliament to amend them. Therefore we shall have succeeded and you shall be the presidential winner, you shall be the coast people’s choice for the presidential candidate for the year 2007
We see you as an able person to solve this age-old land issue.
Our Lawyers are Nabutete and Advocates and company Nairobi Tel
They require KSH 500,000 redisbsement fees which we have unable to raise.
This is the bomb test for you
I was assisted to obtain your address by my brother in-law Mr. Michael O. Otiato

TO ALL KENYANS!!!!

These are the kind of things we do not want in Kenya! If you fix the law and have equitable distribution of development, away from the center and active at the periphery (Better known as devolution) then this storied of the big man sorting out local problems would never arise.

This is how a centralised Presidency has emasculated and hoodwinked Kenyans that only the President can solve their problems. Most of which he has no idea about!!!(Did you hear Moi shocked at how N.E is "neglected" despite being prezo for donkey years?)

In the REALLY NEW dispensation (Acha Kibaki the passing cloud) things will change and wananchi will be able to do their thing.

Vote out Kibs and Narc-Kenya (a shame they took the country's name, there ought to be a law against this, same to ODM-Kenya, Ford-Kenya all "Kenya" parties-some of them are really anti-kenyan). Vote wisely

I wonder what kind of man Raila is.Some four years ago,Raila said Kibaki tosha!and indeed it was.Last year He led a group of MPs to reject the proposed constitution and it was indeed successful.Kenyans of all sorts;Young and Old,Literate and illiterate sang the orange song. And some few days ago He said that we must have some minimum reforms before the general elections, and i am seeing something happening. In my own view,i think Kenyans shoud try this man come the general elections.

i think Raila is enlightening us on what needs to be done for us as voter who elects the goverment to address our needs.some gifts are natural and should not be paid for even in the form of patronage but we need a even playing field where the ones talent in nurtured and excelled to maximum then one can choose a path of direction and RAILA does identify with our needs until we do not feel low whether economically, socially, healthy, knowlegde and respect for one as human with rights to be in the universe
