Hello,
this is a message for people living in Atyrau and Kulsary. Could you please add information about your city with pictures in Wikipedia?I found that kazakhstani western cities are not so well advertised in internet.I started to have a feeling that most people living near Caspian see area either do not have access to internet or simply uneducated. There is a lot of info posted by local people there about Almaty,Astana,Chimkent but Atyrau and Kulsary are like ghost cities, nothing at all.Wake up people!!! Stop playing computer games and start promoting your city!!

Atyrau is an oil capital of kazakhstan. one of the rapidly developing cities here. around 200 or more companies related to oil are working nowadays...

u can kill ur time by going some restaurants, bars, clubs here...no parks except an only park where u can find some attractions but not many unfortunately..

river ural devides the city into 2 parts called Asia and Europe. though they are called like these they dont have so many differences between them. europe part is full of new buildings...

atyrau is famous for its mosquitoes here. not all means of anti-mosquiitoes are effective. impossible to wander around the city especially in the evening and at nights in the summer...

also windy most of the time...sunny city...

in the spring or fall, it s muddy...

local people are aggressive, high-tempered by their own nature, but mostly hospitable....

service is not so good developed. in spite of some trading centers located in this city, be willing that not all things u could find here...

most local ppl speak in their native language, i.e. kazakh. if use some russian even become aggressive or start to read some moral...

good luck to everybody who r gonna visit oil capital of kz.

dont be hesitated to ask any questions concerning this city...

p.s. i m not local but from almaty...

Hello everyone,
I agree with most of what pistegul said, but I didn't see anyone who will behave aggresively if you speak in Russian & didn't hear of any situations like that. It is hard to get used to Atyrau, sometimes living conditions may get extreme, though there are new restaurants are being opened with good service, for example "Joy".
So, if you have time "after work", there are some places to enjoy.

The things I can tell to all expat dont go in Kazakhstan especially in Atyrau and any part of it if you still love your life.. the kazakh people is like barbarian that without any reason they are beating expats especially at night. the corrupt also very strong especially if you will involve with the police authority they investigate everything including your pocket and personal belongings.

If anyone still to stay in kazakhstan enjoy your life
