Interesting - the photo and design of the craft strongly reminds me of the "flying proa" canoes used by Guam's ancient Chamorros. Some of the anecdotal sources at the University of Guam's main RFK library infer that the ancient Chamorros may had originally emigrated from Japan, among other pan-Asian ancestral theories. Although Chamorro "flying proas" are usually depicted as "single-hull" crafts, as based on known EUropean sources, IMPO the evidence remains inconclusive, espec as per multi-person, long-distance ocean voyages.
