it is on the invitation!

In chinese forum, most of us are against trying to join it, even though Uk and france try to enlarge the group for developing countries india, brazil, south africa, mexico, and china.
of course, America and japan are against trying, too.
As to this issue, America, japan, and common chinese have the same opinion.lol

Is being a G8 member glorious?
why do so many people protest against it!
imo, several countries are playing the earth.

china is a member of UN, it's ok.
China should be in G8

According to Wiki - the world ranking on GDP is

1. US
2. Japan
3. Germany
4. China
5. UK
6. France
7. Spain or Canada (depending on whose list)

Putative G8 member, Russia is number 10 behind Brazil.

You can make a pretty good case to kick out
Russia and move in China.

Of course based on population and projected per capita GDP growth, it won't be long before China and India are #1 and #2.

Admitting Russia into the G8 was a mistake. Originally the G7 consisted of the 7 richest, industrialized democracies of the world. Clearly, Russia is not and should be kicked out. China should not get in also because China's government is a thug government with guns. China has more in common with Cuba, North Korea, Laos, and Vietnam. These are the remaining die hard, Marxist Leninist states.

Sorry, I left out Italy by mistake. the corrected list is:

1. US
2. Japan
3. Germany
4. China
5. UK
6. France
7. Italy
8. Spain or Canada (depending on whose list)

Avenger - Cold war is over and there is no sense discussing Global Warming, Africa etc. without including one of the largest contributor of CO2
and biggest investor to Africa.

G5 started out as an alternative to UN Security Council, who kept an anachronistic list of WWII victors as permanent members, by inviting the economical powers: Japan and Germany who were excluded from the security council.

Cold war is over, They probably teach Maxist Lenninism in Chinese Universities but they are less popular in China then they are in UC Berkley.

I heard in NPR, they were interviewing a recent graduate who Majored in English and Marxist Lenninism, he couldn't get a job and he wished he majored in Compter Science instead.

As a great country China has an obligation to the important world affairs: The Global Warming, the spectacular rise of oil price,Food shortage in the world, etc. The presence of the Chinese leader is indispensable and would contribute to the solutions of the world's problems. Without China's participation solving those problems is impossible. That is why the members of G-8 invited President Hu Jintao to join the meeting.
It is a necessity which China could not evade.
It is not about pride or something.

The proxy hopping Two Cents is trying to go around using proxy servers to impersonate Two Cents of San Mateo, CA. You are not convincing anyone with your one liner stupid statements.

China is a developing country and does not want to be in the G8. Yet, Hu Jintao is the star of the show at G8. That is the venue for everyone to be on the good side of China, so that the G8 heads of states can ask Hu for an invitation to the Olympics. So far we have Bush who said he is going because he wants to be one the good side of the Chinese people. Fukuda of Japan also announced that he is going. They both felt it necessary to be on camera making a public statement that they are supporting the Opening Ceremony. Sarkozy will be at the G8 meeting apologizing to Hu and begging Hu to invite him to the Opening Ceremony.

Hu will be a very important part of the meeting as G8 is trying to figure out how to stop the rise of oil price and the collapse of the dollar. China is not concerned about oil prices going up. China has close to 2 trillion dollars of currency reserve to pay for the oil and can easily afford to help subsidize domestic gasoline prices. The RMB is rising faster than the dollar is dropping.

I am feeling so good about the situation that I just want to sing this Disney tune.

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah
Zip-A-Dee-A
My oh my, what a wonderful day
Plenty of sunshine heading my way
Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah
Zip-A-Dee-A

It is nice waking up in the morning. Another great day for China!

Enjoy the song!

Just let G# die out. China should not extent the life of such meaningless club by attending.

Updating my earlier post about the G8 meeting, Sarkozy did tell Hu that he is going to the Opening Ceremony of the Beijing Olympics. That is a 180 degree change of Sarkozy's position.

Hu replied that it was a wise choice, but did not extend any invitation to Sarkozy. Sarkozy will be going not as a guest of Hu, but as a guest of the French Opympic Committee.

Sarkozy won't be attending any special reception for the guests of Hu, and will not be signing any contracts for more airbus orders. In fact, last week, Air China was shifting 50 of the airbus orders and gave them to Boeing.
