1 Hamas charter (and the viewpoint behind it) that Israel must cease to exist as a state must change. It is no wonder that Jews read that charter as not just about a "state" but as about a "people's" existence But the other side of the picture is that the IDF ought to recognize that attacking Palestinian civilian infrastructure is wrong, much less being counterproductive. Israel needs some creative moral thinking about this. In conflicts over land and space (wars and occupations) people do what they need to survive. When Jews faced the British in Palestine they set up shadow governments, charities, etc. to be ready for independence. Resistance movements survive among the population nurtured like fish in a stream. Now Palestinians are doing the same thing. There is something wrong about military theory that says one must destroy civilian charities to eliminate their infrastructure relation to resistance, but in the process destroy their means to make the civilian population viably survive. |

...before we jump to a 2 state solution (really a 3 state solution with 2 pal states - Jordan and whatever land they can carve off Israel) we should remember the words of the Pal leaders in discussing the realities of their tactics and strategy toward the dismantling of Israel...
Zuheir Mohsen, also transcribed Zuhayr Muħsin or Zahir Muhsein)(b. 1936, d. 1979) was a Palestinian leader of the Syria-sponsored as-Sa'iqa faction of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) between 1971 and 1979. In 1976, Zuheir Mohsen gained notoriety for being the commander of the Arab forces that invaded the Lebanese Christian town of Damour, which resulted in the massacre of hundreds of Christian citizens, known as the Damour massacre. Zuhair Mohsen is widely known for having made the following statement in a March 1977 interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw: 'The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct 'Palestinian people' to oppose Zionism. For tactical reasons, Jordan, which is a sovereign state with defined borders, cannot raise claims to Haifa and Jaffa, while as a Palestinian, I can undoubtedly demand Haifa, Jaffa, Beer-Sheva and Jerusalem. However, the moment we reclaim our right to all of Palestine, we will not wait even a minute to unite Palestine and Jordan.' |

1 Beyond the fact that Jews were returning to their ancient homeland, the League of Nations authorized the land west of the Jordan as a Jewish homeland (and, by the way, included the Golan Heights, once known as Northern Galilee) under the Palestine Mandate of July 24, 1922. So it has no lesser legitimacy than Syria or Lebanon (under French Mandate) or Iraq (under British Mandate). Much of the land in Palestine which is claimed to be "stolen" was in fact purchased. Few nations can match the fundamental legitimacy that Israel has as explained in 5 parts at : http://israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2007/... |

An old book, in Latin, which had been written by a Christian named Adriaan Reland, chronicling his trip in the land of Israel in 1695/6 :
The land was, on the whole, empty and desolate; the inhabitants were few and concentrated in the cities of Jeusalem, Acre, Safed, Jaffa, Tiberius and Gaza. Most of the inhabitants of the cities were Jews, the others were Christian; there were very few Moslems, mostly nomadic Bedouins. Nablus (Schem) was different, with a population of about 120 people from the Moslem Natsha family and about 70 Shomronites. In Nazareth, the capital of the Galilee, there were approximately 700 people – all Christians. It is interesting that Reland mentions all the Muslims as nomadic Bedouin tribes who arrived in the area as seasonal workers, in both agriculture and construction. In Gaza, for example, there were approximately 550 people; fifty per-cent of them were Jews, the rest Christians. For additional information : http://israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2007/... |

1 It should be remembered that in 1918, with the fall of the Ottoman Empire, Britain and France were handed >5,000,000 square miles to divvy up and 99+% was given to the Arabs to create countries that did not exist previously. <1% was given as a Mandate for the re-establishment of a state for the Jews on both banks of the Jordan River. In 1921, to appease the Arabs once again, another three quarters of that <1% was given to a fictitious state called Trans-Jordan.(Jack Berger, May 31, 2004.) The total for all the 22 Arab League countries is 6,145,389 square miles (SM). By comparison, all 50 states of the United States have a total of 3,787,318 SM. Israel has 8,463 SM, about one-sixth of that of the State of Michigan. Iran, Turkey, Pakistan and Afghanistan are Muslim but not Arab and are not included. World Arab population: 300 million; World Jewish population: 13.6 million; Israel's Jewish population: 5.4 million. More at : http://israelagainstterror.blogspot.com/2007/... |
