I believe that this article is Arab inspired. Anti semetic crap. In this day and age it is very important for the United States to stand together like the good allies that we are.

this was a deliberate attack for two reasons - Israel was getting ready to launch a sneak attack on Jerusalem eventhough Jordan, which controlled the city, was not involved in the war, and the israeli's were executing Egyptian prisoners of war captured on the Sinai - they wanted to cover up both crimes and they knew the Liberty wa listening in on their messages. They also knew LBJ was an Israeli stooge and would not make a big deal out of it, which he didn't.

Israel acts as a defacto US military outpost instead of a sovereign nation, and eventually its going to suffer because of that. As for the article itself, name one other country in the world that has the clout to hush up such atrocities against American soldiers for decades!

This was an excellent story. Anyone still in doubt that the "incident" was a deliberate war crime against an ally should check out the Liberty survivors' site at www.ussliberty.com . It is time that their voices are finally heard.

Is there any evidence that the reason for the Israeli attack on the Liberty was that the Liberty had learned that some Israeli soldiers were klling Egyptian prisoners of war at El Ariish? That is an explanation presented byJames Bamford in his book about the NSA, "Body of Secrets," at pages 202-3, 235-6.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. Finally someone is listening to the crew of the Liberty who, basically unarmed, were relentlessly fired on by the Israelis. This act of murder has been hidden for years and it now looks like, thanks to newspapers like yours, it may finally be brought be brought out of the dark.

You talk about heroes, that is the crew crew of the Liberty.

This hasn't been secret; there just hasn't been much interest by the American public. Like the Pueblo, just ignored. Brittney Spears and Anna Nicole Smith command more interest than stories of patriots (and fathers, sons, and brothers) brutally murdered by an "Ally."

IT'S ABOUT TIME! Congratulations to the Tribune for having the stones to run this piece.

The attack on the USS Liberty was a false-flag operation with the intent of making it look like the Egyptians did it, thus dragging the US into yet another of Israel's aggressions.

Good job Tribune...as we prepare to do Netanyahu's bidding against Iran, the timing couldn't be better.

I agree that we should stop supporting them. But unfortunately the politicians here would never have the guts to do so. Until Israel tells the truth about what happened with the Liberty, they do not deserve our support.

40 years on and still this same Liberty boat conspiracy mess. New sanctions against Germany and Italy please for how they butchered our men during WWI and WWII. And the Japanese -- the horrors they committed against our men in the Pacific would shock the World's conscience. This Liberty affair was wrong, an accident, or intentional. Everyone has a theory. But it was officially apologized for and compensation was paid -- decades ago. Didn't we do this in Afghanastan when we accidentally or intentionally killed hundreds of people at a wedding while looking for a terrorist? We paid out monetary compensation and officially apologized to the Afghanis. In Iraq when we have accidentally wiped out civilians? Are American apologies and cash more sincere than those of others? The men on the boat were in a war zone were they not? They were military, and heroic for serving. But also, sadly, soldiers do die. Sheesh. Move on. Can the two countries ever get beyond this one Cold War incident? Ever? Can newspapers? I hope so.
