If that were true, then Malaysia wouldn't be trying so hard to act like Indonesia....and Singapore, and China, and India...just about any asian nation really. I remember when i go to malaysia this year, is not AWESOME because what?
1. The Beach, is not good after i compare with Indonesian beach ANYER BEACH, PANGANDARAN BEACH&Others.
2. The People, This is make me not understand' it
All days i see an INDIA & CHINA people, Where's a MELAYU/MALAY people?? Are they gone...??!!
3. The most i hate is food, tasted like...uuuueeee
Make me wanna go home & eat the SUNDAS Food (Healthy & Spicy).

No offence but you're wrong Jeff. Similiraties are becos the same stock of people moved here from Java, Sumatera, India, China etc etc long before Indonesia or even Malaysia were born. They brought along their culture, assimilated with locals and naturally the food, languages, dances and what not, evolved to become LOCAL culture too. and off course, these people later on became Malaysians.

So, who on earth can deny that those rendangs, keris, gamelan, barongan were indeed cooked, made and danced by Malaysians? Yes, they're can still called themselves Javanese, Sundanese, Chinese, or Indians but they're, sorry Jeff, they're MALAYSIANS!

If only that first generation still around, you should ask them if they want to go back to what is now Indonesia and become Indonesian?

I don't know why Indons refers Malaysia as Maling. I mean if you ask everyone in the world, they wouldn't know what the heck is Maling. Let me get this straight (once and for all). M'sians aren't stealing any form of culture of some countries, except that the proximity of that country and its culture may affect ours. Or maybe it's us who influence them.

If one of our M'sian culture stuffs looks very similar to an Indonesian one, doesn't mean we copied from them. Seriously, why stealing from them? Please .. can't you think of a more unique, solid statement?

We seem to have some similarities. One strong possibility's that we M'sians and Indonesians are all from the same root, in one way or another. It's just that either some of us (or them) don't want to admit this truth.
