The converting of edible food into biofuel is now showing the world what a screwball idea it was: Taking food out of the mouths of starving people to flush it down car exhaust pipes. And on top of that, taxpayers are forking over big time subsidies to the foodstuff processors to make ethanol from grain and other food supplies. This is just one more dumb proposal foisted on the people of the world by extremist environmentalists and ignorant politicians who went along with them. How many starving children do there have to be before the ethanol mandates are tossed in the trash can where they belong?

Typical. They blame the hardworking farmer for this. Ask any farmer how much diesel went up since the war in Iraq, and you will see what is causing this.

It does suck that a farmer has to sell his crop for fuel means rather than for the food of his country. But who can blame him?

All you dumbarses crying about biofuels.... it's the increasing cost of OIL that's driving up the price of food. Not biofuels. Alternative energy will ALLEVIATE the problem, not make it worse, jackarses.

If you want to profit from the rising Ag (i.e.wheat, corn, etc) & other commodity prices (ie gold, silver , copper, etc) and offset your rising food & energy prices, buy one of the commodity fund ETF's such as DBA, DBC and /or GCC, for some examples.
If you want help others who are now suffering from these increasing costs, give to such organizations as Oxfam and the Chicago Food Depository, for examples. OR, do both and take some of the profits you make from such investments and donate them. That's what I'm now doing! AND, write your US Senators & Congressmen and DEMAND they eliminate these costly and wasteful corn to ethanol subsidies & mandates as well!! |

No doubt rising oil prices are the main contributor to the problem-but to think that putting increasing amounts of food into biofuel production doesn't also contribute to rising food prices is pure folly. |

I'm not saying it isn't a minor contributory factor... It is. But all the ideologues are running to this issue like moths to a flame to confuse the issue (Like Global Warming and ID) and make it impossible to discuss honestly. |

Maybe you should do a little more research. It is the ethanol that is adding to the raising food prices.The price of oil today is for futures pricing, not todays price. Which means we are being taken advanatge of. So whats new there.. Ethanol is not the right alternative fuel,Remember 'dumbazz we have tried that once in the 70,s. Ethanol Reduces Fuel Economy,ethanol, or grain alcohol, produces 35 percent less energy per gallon than gasoline; thus the fuel economy of vehicles burning ethanol is lower. In addition, poorer fuel economy means vehicles will use more gallons of fuel, which could negate any air quality gains due to fuel economy improvements. If every acre of corn were used to produce ethanol, it would supply the equivalent of only 12 percent of current gasoline use. It is the GRAIN price's that are responsible for the rising food prices..Please pull your head out of your Azz.. |

You are right and guess who bought up all of the Patents for other fuels and building engines to get 100-200 MPG ???!!!!! BIG OIL COMPANIES This is what we should be storming our Legislators about and demanding they do something about it. It is about the PEOPLE, not the Lobbist who should be listened to. |
