There is little need to resort to overt phyisical discrimination. Most foreign residents are of the transient type to be in genuine competition to the locals. For those at the bottom of the pile their Asian upbringing would act against unseemy decorum at host country. In a territory with more than 99% of its population being of undifferentiated indigneous stock, an equal race-based entitlement agenda would justify the wide attention only for its spiritually uplifting efficacy for a financially confident citizenry. |

I live in HK. My father said:I think most of the hongkongers are not racist. At least,I am getting along very well with my South Asian(including Filipino) colleagues.

However, there is not enough resources that can be allocated to facilitate "forgotten children's" education. Only a small no.(only one as I know) of school can meet those children's special needs who speak non-Chinese languages.
In other words, the forgotten children are segregated, discriminated against and ostracised form our education systems. There are 103 students aged between 4and 6, waiting for the school places, with the waiting time of between 2 and 3 years! |

The whole trouble with white people is that they descend from barbarians.

1 In HK Non-Chinese people are allowed to hold senior positions in the govt. and are afforded many other freedoms. In which country are Chinese minority not discriminated against and allowed to hold senior positions in the govt.? The most glaring example is Indonesia where the ethnic Chinese minority is not just discriminated against but also periodically subjected to atrocities. Why no human rights issue is ever raised on behalf of Chinese minority in Indonesia? Why was there no issue of racism in HK ever raised when the white Brits were ruling and practised overt discrimination against the Chinese majority? And if it is of any comfort, even Chinese people from the mainland are not exempt from this "discrimination" in HK. I believe this accusation of racism in HK is just another one of the West's pressure tactics against China now that HK is a part of China. The West just can't get used to seeing a China that is rising in strength and prominance on the world stage. If these foreigners can't take life in HK as it is then they are free to leave and go back to their own countries. Nobody forced them to come and live in HK and nobody is making them stay back. Given a choice, none of these bloody foreigners will ever want to go back to where they came from, specially the ones from underdeveloped third world countries like India, Pakistan, Phillipines, Nepal etc. As a matter of fact the rate of illegal immigration to HK from these countries is on the rise. Why do they come then? Do they like HK "racism" and then complain about it? |

This would have a lot to do with a not quite up to the mark legislature with little working nous when balancing the SAR's aspirations against Beijing's wishes.
This mixture of lawmakers, both elected and unelected, are often reduced to making highly visible but suspect efforts at being seen to be defending and promoting Hong Kong's interests and liberties. Perhaps because of the rather vociferous rhetorics, compared to that in neighbouring Macau, drummed up against any perceived intervention from the mainland, the SAR is kept on a rather loose leash from Beijing, but leash all the same, no mistake. Impotent that they are, the legislature are however portrayed as an effective bastion of Hong Kong's freedom. Equal opportunities for the minorities ethnic and otherwise would therefore fit nicely as a convenient ploy into this satisficing mindset. |

i think the chinese culture is very torlerant of other religions and cultures. racism seems to be much less a problem in hong kong than in the west.

hehehehe.... obviously, the writer of this article had an unpleasing experience(in his own standard) in HK. the truth is, 'racism' is not the issue, its his personal problem(maybe he has an ugly face etc.) that no one likes him in HK.
