if you recall, Columbus was sailing to the EAST Indies but was led to the WEST Indies...u would imagine that every land to the unknown "west" was called the West Indies..whether mainland or islands!
Now, I assume you know what is a continent and where Guyana lies. Politically, Guyana is in the West indies and the culture that defined its people is basically West Indian culture...

1. Guyana is part of the west Indies.
2. Guyana is south American
3. If your Guyanese your a west Indie. Most say west Indian. A West Indies people.
4. Guyanese are mainly a people of Afro and Indo descent.( African and Indian)
5. Culture wise and language we are similar but unique to most Caribbean countries(Trinidad,Barbados,Ja maica etc)
