I'm Moving to Guam in January

Really? No one is willing to offer some advice?

I'm moving there in january 2010 please let me know some info.From some of the things i have read i'm scared. I have twin one year olds to worry about. I don't know what to believe.

Guam isnt nearly as bad as some of the people on here make it out to be. I was stationed there for two years (04-06). I got married while I was there and had a kid. We lived in Oka Towers in Tamuning. Up north and in the central has some spots that look pretty trashy, but the south is beautiful as far as I am concerned. Tumon is pretty much the hot spot for tourism, it has quite a few restraunts, strip clubs, massage parlors, and adult novelty shops.If that kind of stuff isnt your cup of tea then just avoid it. There are lots of boonie dogs, but I dont recall any trying to attack me. I did have one run in with the locals, but as I recall alcohol influenced that situation. My wife and I and our two kids are considering moving back sometime in the early part of next year.

Any area in particular you looking at? North side's pretty bad (I live in Yigo and to be on the safe side I gotta pay my car off before I move), but there are nice places too.

Do u know what side of guam is the naval base. We will stay on base hopefully. I really have no idea how the housing is on base or is it off base do u know? THANKS SO MUCH FOR THE REPLY

The naval base is southside. It's very rural down there. I enjoy driving around the mountain pass roads near there. And the Inarajan pools are absolutely gorgeous and not to be missed.

I haven't lived on base personally though (parents were military, but my mom being a retired local meant I've always lived off base) and I haven't been to the naval base, just the Air force one so I cant speak on that. But I'm more than sure they're nice.

However, housing outside base is quite expensive. The locals will try to take advantage of military residence funds and set their prices to match it. Basically, a high price won't guarantee a nice place to stay, so shopping around is definitely advised.
