The article is an example of how different representation of the same facts can influence the meaning...
... a clear reference to Russian pressure on new members such as Poland, which faces a Russian meat embargo....
Well, indeed, Poland faces a meat embargo, but why did not Vanessa mention that the SUPPLIES of meat are banned not because the meat is Polish (and we hate the Poles), it is not even Polish meat (beef) that is embargoed, but Buffalo meat from somewhere in Latin America that is sold under the brand of Polish companies! Of course, the Polish farmers should not be responsible for that, but unless the problem is fixed, their production will not be bought here.
In February, for example, he used an unprecedented harsh tone to criticize the United States during a security forum in Munich.
Why not say (just for example) what was the reason of that harsh tone? I would like to hear the tone of, say, Rice, if Russia put its Missile Defence units on (for mere example) Cuba, LOL. It is not much farther from Iran than Czech Republic is from N. Corea, and is not much farther from Russia than CR is from the US... And why not take care of it?

Moscow imposed a ban on meat imports from Poland in November 2005, claiming that lax Polish food safety controls had allowed Indian buffalo meat to enter Russia labeled as beef.

I don't see the problem here.

In America, buffalo meat is considered a delicacy. ;-)

Delicious buffalo steaks:

And by Indian water buffalo standing in water all day can only serve to tenderize it all the more ;-)

He means the Poles aren't scared of Russian nukes raining down on them.

They've bought up all the concrete shelters we built in our back yards in the 50's and are now nuke-proof. ;-)

Well, I wrote it for people who find this article in Topix. I meant that it implies further reading and investigating the matter in more detail - else its reader will be mislead by its tone.

We Americans don't like to read between the lines, RT.

That's an old Soviet habit. We just take verbatim whatever media gobbledegook that's thrown at us and consider it the truth.

That's what the free press is all about. LOL

You can like roasted kangaroos, but it doesn't mean it will be ok to sell it as polish beaf and it will not be normal to fake documents anyway.

Actually I did not want to fright Poles, and I like that idea to use the territory of Poland as a shield which has to protect USA and maybe Europe.
Unfortunately there were such pages of polish history where english, french and american freinds of Poland sold it to Hitler, to Stalin. Who will be next?

Import of every meat from India /as well as from China/ to Russia is forbidden for a long time /since 1939/ because the situation with a lot of dangerous diseases of animals in India is extremely unsuccessful.

Putin reiterated his position that the Polish meat was substandard, noting that Berlin had recently seized a shipment of the meat. Germany has backed Poland in its dispute with Russia. Putin said the seizure spoke louder than words and he would not preach to Merkel when he travels to Germany for a Group of Eight summit next week. "Of course I won't tell her,'You don't want to eat this meat yourself but want to feed it to me.' I won't say that," he said.

Well, that's exactly the point of contention between East and West, isn't it?

Russians know perfectly well how adept Russians and Poles are at faking documents. But somehow, the EU and America seem to want to remain naive to the issue and take Poland's word that's everything's under control.

Now that China has sold us melamine-tainted foodstuffs, the US media is buzzing with all sorts of stories of Chinese fake pharmaceuticals, fake glycerine, fake protein meal, on and on that kill thousands every year.

Yet every international trader in the world knows the risks Chinese edibles possess and just ignores them for profit, simply showing their 'certificate of quality'(which they could care less if it was fake or not, as long as they're not legally responsible for the consequences.

So, I say - good for Russia. It's about time they put their foot down.

This is even funnier now that Polish meat is also barred from Germany!!!

There is no point always blaming Russia and supporting Poland against it, and then realise that , yes, Polish meat is unfit!!!

"gas and oil cutoffs to neighbors during price disputes in past winters" - what would Russia do if no one would need gas or oil because of hydro-, nuclear-, solar power replacing fuel fossils?
Russia needs to sell its gas to get $$$; so no need to demonstrate its imaginary indifference about gas supply to other countries.
Besides, it's very 'humane' to cut gas during winter months...

Besides, telling like that is very prejudice stuff. May be you will read what and how happened first and than make conclusions?

And exactly, Russia needs money, a lot of money. Oligarchs will never miss the chance to rob it. Anyway, why should Russia sell gas for 90$ to foreighn countries whereas world prices are 3-4 times higher? It is direct showing of difference. Not long ago WTO demanded to flat prices in Russia and in the same time most of WTO members found something inhumane in doing what they demanded.

Don't you think that rejection to pay for gas at all (even to the price of 160$, what is much less than at World) is extremely "humane" and democratic :)? Don't you think that 7 months was enough to prepare to price highing and winter?

Gas and oil are raw material for the chemical industry the first of all.
Less than 30% of them use as fuel.
And in the future they will be more and more expensive.

That is why right now we should do our best to rise and flat prices to everyone, so our "brother" nations will stop parasiting. And oligarchs will stop making extra-profit from of using Ukrain and Belorusia and from using their political power in Russia.

This is where you got it all wrong.
Russia needs to sell its gas and oil, but Europe isn't the only one that wants it.
China, Japan, India and South Korea are far more desperate to get their hands on Russian energy than the West.
Russia is already diversifying its supply and will provide more and more to the Far East at the expence of Europe. The Chinese border is nearer from the Siberian gas fields than Europe too.
Give it a few more diplomativ incidents, some missile troubles or any problem, and Russia will turn its gas and oil taps towards Europe FOR GOOD !!!
And if you can replace oil and gas demand by hydro, solar or nuclear energy OVERNIGHT, show us how it's done!!! Otherwise, you are just talking poppycocks...
