well if they would have used the big bailout money to do something it would have went good ...but no , they gave it to their ceo and high uppers bonuses and than they cried ...now they want another bailout ...hummmm...... its xmas time again and they need bonus money for their ceo and ones in power again ..... just like the big banks did last yr..... america is getting poorer everyday .

So, if GM Europe stays under GM USA umbrella, it means that the American taxpayers will be subsidising German workers' wages?
I am all for it!!

At the end, any carmaker will only survive if it can sell cars the public wants.

GM Europe is in better position on that account than GM USA.

American car buyers are more and more attracted by US-made Japanese and German cars, not by their own domestic companies.

at the end of the day nobody cares what russians have to say,why don't they care about their starving people?

GM has or will close 14 plants in the USA with about 20,000 jobs involved, and has closed or is closing over 1,000 dealerships in the USA, with over 10,000 jobs lost there, too. It has divested itself of Saab and stopped production of the Oldsmobile and Pontiac brands. So, this has not been easy on this side of the water. I expect this decision is not so simple as the media and Topix portray it, and I doubt it was a politically driven one.

I wouldn't agree with the statement that US consumers are "more and more" attracted to European and Japanese marques. They have been so attracted for quite a few years! They are attracted to quality, reliability, and economy. Ford seems to have gotten ahead of the curve, but GM and AMC are playing catch-up. The exchange rate may be running up the prices of foreign-built cars, tipping the "economy" scale back to the USA.

In the end, Robes is right, people will buy from companies that produce what they want...if they can afford to pay for them!

I talked to one russian. Of course people live better in Moscow but people live very bad in the Russian Far East and that is because all money goes to Moscow.

I am not worried at all !!

We don't have domestic car manufacturer anymore in Britain and we are still doing alright. We make cars for German, Japanese, French and even Chinese companies.
