If your name was Cole and you went to live in Poland, no one would start calling you kapusta (that's the Polish word for Cole), but you feel entitled to alter a Polish name to your liking? Wouldn't it be nice if Copernicus was German, Maria Sklodowska-Curie and Chopin - French, or the Polish Pope - ah, the Polish pope. Marie Curie spent her life in France, married a Frenchman, worked in France, spoke French, was a French citizen, was celebrated as a scientist in France well before she was famous in Poland.
It's France which gave her the means to conduct research and become famous; not Poland!
Her daughter married a scientist too, and the couple Joliot-Curie were prominent members of the French Communist Party too!!
