I served in the army a few years back and so did my little brother. My enlistment ended just before Iraq started heating up but he did two tours there. Those were hard times for our family and I wonder whether it was worth it. The memories seared into my brother's mind. This is his one life and horrible images from Iraq will be with him until he dies. What makes it worth it? What makes this country worth dying for? I read a headline this morning that the families of the DC sniper victims were busy "celebrating" his execution. To me that is sick. And primitive. What makes this country worth dying for?

This is terribly terribly sad. A friend of mind served in Iraq and never talks about it with any kind of sadness but he locks his bedroom door every night and startles easily. I worry about the images and the stories he isn't sharing.

I can't answer your questions, they are too difficult but I want to say that I sympathize and I hope your brother will find ways to look ahead though I realize how easy it is for me to say something like that, never having been there.

"All Quiet on the Western Front" captured WWI so well. This article does a great job doing so, too.

Daily Horoscope for December 1

Sagittarius

As much as the robust Archer would like to indulge, today you must mind your health. If you go out to celebrate the holidays, go easy on the rich foods and spirits. Too much alcohol and you might find yourself saying the absolute wrong thing to the right person, thus blowing what could be a perfectly lovely evening. Strive for moderation.
