Why were indians brought to Fiji?

Was there a shortage in labour amongst fijians in 1800's or was there another reason?

Fijians didnt want to be paid slaves for the Brits lol

Because Fijians were lazy and didn't want to work - just like the rest of the Pacific Islanders who live on the Tax Payers money in NZ..

But if islanders were lazy then why where some of them taken to work on the sugar canes in QLD?? There surely must be another reason than that.

India was over crowded with dogs and humans living together on the street so they took them as slaves, loaded them up like sardines in the girmit. When they got to Fiji and saw how wonderful it is to have a roof under their heads, they ran away and refused to return to india.
So the Fijians used them as their slaves to plant
sugarcane. The payment was, 1 bowl of dhal soup and a roof over their heads.

The Fijians didn't understand becos they were
blessed with alot of food, alot of land and many more. The indians on the other hand, their eyes
almost popped out - they couldn't believe what they were seeing - imagine living on the streets of india to having a roof over their heads...it pays to be a slave to the wonderful FIJIANS.

yes...I think it was just because...back then...the Fijians had everything they wanted and needed...they could just simply get all their food from the sea and root crops....they did not need to work for anything...but because there was so much shit going on in India..it was a better life, for Indians to come over and work in the fields

They were brought in for a purpose and Fiji should be thankful to them. Compare other Pacific Island countries, Fiji is well ahead just bcoz of them
