I've a lot of time for Lula, but the unfortunate thing is that all South American arguments seem to fall back on the point that the UK is a long way from the Falklands. Acre is right next to Bolivia, but miles from Brasilia, why doesn't he hand it over? After all it used to be Bolivian, and for much longer than even the most optimistic estimate of Argentine control of the Falklands (12 years! Actual duration, 4 years). The falklands are not right next to Argentina, they are 300 miles away. If you go 200 miles due east from Folkestone, you pass through France, Belgium, Holland and arrive in Germany. Should they all be British?

Las islas estan en mi plataforma Continental, a 462 kilometros esta el punto más cercano entre las islas y el Continente. Y solo una posesión legal por parte de UK puede terminar mis argumentos. Y UK no tiene tal posesión....

Y UK no tiene tal posesión.... England is on France's continental shelf, at a distance of 45 kilometres, ten times closer. So the French have ten times the claim on the UK than Argentina does on the Falklands.
