It makes me especially sick to see this happening in my grandmothers town. The Choban (Vlehn), whom had payed for pastoral rights to the area above the village have become a majority there now. They are easy prey to the Greek propaganda and easier prey to the drachma as well. The real people of Bobosticha and its offspring in the USA are very patriotic Albanians. I can not say the same for these Choban, here in the USA as they fly the Rummanian flag at the festivals while they converse in Albanian with one another. As no one has come forward to answer this one, I'll give it a go.

As far as going to Athens is concerned, it's just a big city, not that friendly as there are too many Greeks there. It may be dangerous because of Middle Eastern minorities whom are being blamed for crimes these days. Watch the travel channels and go to beach instead.

Recent Albanian immigrants are now more appreciated as they have bought homes and have businesses, but their children whom have completed schools and colleges seem to be blocked from professional and the better jobs. Albanians are hushed when they speak their language on the street often by even the average Greek, but in the past have been abused by the police. And this is from a people whom in the USA go about speaking their language loudly in public as though Greek is a beautiful language which it isn't.

There may be 1 million immigrants from Albania all over Greece, but these should not be confused with the indigenous Arvanite population whom have lived in Greece for ages. Some beleive them to be the real ancient Greeks. Arvanites speak/spoke Albanian and are very successful in Greek society. You may find their websites and may be surprized at some such as Milina Mercouri and the Patriarh of Constantinopoli, Athenagorus and even Oanasis, they say.

From what I have heard, Greeks are much more nasty to you Macedonians. So much for Greek Orthodox brotherly love, in fact their clergy are are probably the source of much of this racism.

Yes, a few dracmas and shot of ouzo was all he needed to become Greek. I have met some from Albania whom were told that they were Greek and after coming to the USA and meeting Greeks, have come running back to be Albanian.
