What part of Ethiopia was the child adopted from ? Since there are several ethnic groups and languages, it will be helpful to know the part of the country the child was born. As I see it now, the name is not one of the common names in the country. Are you sure it is spelled right ?

Yes. I think the name is speklled cooerctly. The child was born in Awash and someone told me that his name is probably from Tigrai.

There is no need of knowing what part of Ethiopia the child was born to know the meaning of his name,CHURNEBERCK. His name is a typical Amharic phrase. Chur'neber'ck has to be splitted into three words Chur, Neber and ck.
Chur means generous, Neber means "were or was" and CK is a demonstrative pronoun so churneberck means "you were generous".
If you can read Amharic, there is a site that I can forward you to check the meaning...

Thank you for your replay. Last news says that the correct spelling could be CHERNEBERECK or CHERENEBERECK.
Do you know its meaning?
Thank you very much indeed.

It is the same meaning that I posted above but it differs on the pronunciation. Chere = generous
Nebere= was/were
Ck(demonstrative pronoun)
so Cherenebereck is "you were generous".

It means "were kind" That is to say CHUR means "Kind" in terms of good deed, and Neberck mean "You were" in past tense. When combined it may be translated as "Were-Kind" droping "you". That might just help.
