Race Issue in Ethiopia

wad, it's interesting you wonder about our mixture with Arab. As far as mixtures go, if "mixutre" is defined by looks, why is it always assumed that non-"pitch-black" looks are imported from elsewhere? Because if it is so, then we are threading on a dangerous ground of splitting hairs like Rwanda, over nose shapes and skin etc.
Ethiopia is VERY MUCH LIKE ALGERIA. You have the Meghreb ppl, who are indigeous Algerians, and you have Arabs. If we go by looks, there is no way to tell b/w the two. Yet one is a colonizer and the other is the native. both are not "PITCH BLACK". Futhermore, this idea of African look or skin color comes from the assumption that Africa is a homogenous society of different ethnicities, meaning, the only difference b/w each group being culture, slight looks differences, dialect/language. That just isn't so. The reason why you have Southern Sudanese ppl who look different than Northern Sudanese is simply b/c the North colonized the South, and the South has been fighting for its determination for ages now. They are not the same ppl. The only reason both groups are called Sudanese is because of the colonial boundaries outlined by external colonial power. The same goes for Somalia. North and South are different ppl. The same goes for the San and Basarwa (Bushmen) who look starkly different than Botswana and South African natives whose political boundaries run through these ppl's homelands. When you look at them, they have so-called "Asian" looking eyes. Because of lacking the same logic of African looks etc, these ppl have been oppressed for countless years by dominant groups. Yet they are natives of Africa and ARE NOT MIXED.

The Oromo , Somali , Afar , and other ethnic groups of Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa are indeed Black African who belong to the Cushitic branch of the Congoid race...other branches are Nioltic ,Bantu ,West African , and Khosion all these groups have different facial feature's and looks but indeed all belong to the same race just how Arabs , Nordics , and Dravidian's all are example's of branch's of the Caucasian race... and it's been proven over and over again that ancient Aksum and all the other ancient kingdoms that were located in the horn of Africa were created by indigenous black groupsand not Sabeans who are now believed to have only stayed for a couple of decade's probably only their as a military force ... if race or mixture was determined by feature's Tutsi 's , Fula ,Maasai , and Dodgon's would be considered mix but guess what non of them have one drop of Caucasian blood , and no one can say anything about that... anyway's the Somali have 85 % of their DNA from Sub - Sahara Africa 80 from the Horn and 5 from else were and only 15 percent from Eurasia ... that is not enough to be able to change the look of a whole population ... any ways the Eurasian bloodline decreases more and more every time the intermarriage of other black African's occur ... the Habesha have some Eurasian bloodline but the black blood always predominates the Habesha DNA... you can look at Menelik II of Ethiopia and not see a black man... but on the other hand people like King Tekle Haimanot and Haile Selassie I diffidently have some significant Eursan admixture...in the end it is not enough to call it a mix race society ...and the idea of Ethiopian people anything but black has been debunked over and over again and is not even spoken about in academic circle's ... if ignorant people think Ethiopians are mixed they need to come to Rwanda , were people can come in caramel yellow skin ... you should see me i have very light skin , slanted eye's , a long nose , thick curly hair that fall's to my shoulders , and hazel eye's , and small lips in fact almost everybody in my family looks like that.

these people are other Africans who have have similar or exact facial feature's to Ethiopians and Somalians .

And P.S the light skin of a person who belongs to the Congoid race does not mean admixture with foreign people... because the Congoid race has the most diversity in skin color with help from white populations .

All this debate amuses me - as someone who has resided in Ethiopia for seven years and has frequently been called a n**ger and "black africa" by a large majority of Ethioipians the fact that Ethiopians continue to deny that they are BLACK and AFRICAN makes me laugh.
To the white man you are BLACK and AFRICAN. To the typical black/African/African American man you are BLACK and AFRICAN. In hindsight its really the most pitiful and pathetic thing to witness. As opposed to being broken down or made to feel inferior to these Ethiopians who taunted me I feel a sense of superiority today and thank GOD for education and my beautiful lack of ignornace and the fact that I have never judged a human being based on the colour or hue of their skin.
Instead of arguing over skin tone and ethnic groups why not discuss more important issues such as the crippling poverty Ethiopia faces as it is one of the poorest countries in Africa ( you are African by the way!!!!) and the World as a whole.

No-one said you should care I only said that Ethiopians appear to be black to other blacks and even whites.

If African Americans always "thought in the context of what the white man thinks" they would still be slaves today. Dont undermine the civil rights movement and all the barriers that African Americans have broken in the US to make life more comfortable for a person with a skin tone like yours to make a life for yourself in America.

Thinking in the context of a white man has nothing to do with it - if that were the case you too would be thinking in the context of a white man since you speak the language of a white man ENGLISH. Next you will tell me that an Ethiopian created English.

The term "black" and "white" are words in the English language used to describe a particular race of humans. Just as I wouldnt call a foreigner "ferengi" you wouldnt call yourself "black". Can you point out where I said I hated Ethiopians so much? I've never said that. My parents worked in Ethiopia and I had no choice in the matter - when I was old enough to leave and was given the chance I left immediately.
