Why didn't Eritrean men...

During Italian colonization of Eritrea, Italian men had sexual relationships with Eritrean women. I have posted the link below. Why didn't Eritrean men have the same type of relationships with Italian women, or marry Italian women?

Also,the movie star Zeudi Araya is married to an Italian man. I posted the link below. How come an Eritrean athlete or actor has not married and Italian woman?

Generally speaking, Italian men categorized their Eritrean sexual partners as either
“sciarmutte” or “madame.”3 Sciarmutta was an Italianization of the Arabic term “sharmãta”
and stood for prostitute; the term madama applied to concubines who associated with Italian
men, although Italian men and their madame did not always cohabit. In a broader sense, the
term seems to have referred to an African woman in an exclusive relationship with an Italian
man. By Italian standards the madamato or madamismo (i.e., the relationship with a
madama) had no legal sanction; Italians considered it something different from marriage,
questioning whether or not an African woman could ever become a “real wife.” Italians
debated the issue throughout the colonial period, but for most the answer was a definite
“No.”

Propaganda. Look at how many of them took care of the Eritrean lover. How many eritreans have moved to Italy since then? Why, because they have Italian blood.

truth, Mercito,: you obviously don't know jack. Because the Italians married the women from Ethiopia(TEGARU) who were living and working in Asmara (mostly working in bars and as maids). But you, ignorant of any historical facts that you are, thought they married Eritreans. HAHAHAHHAHA NO ERIREAN WOULD MARRY AN ITALIAN IN THOSE DAYS. But the Tegaru, since they migrated from Ethiopia to work here in Asmara (land of milk and honey), were not worried about any of their country men watching over them so they married Italian. One good thing is that those who were of mixed ethiopian and italian blood chose to be Eritreans rather than go to ethiopia, due to the fact that they know and love Eritrea not ethiopia.

The reason Eritrean men didn't marry Italian women, was because Italian women were TOO UGLY!

The reason eethiopian Tegaru (agame) women married Italian men was because they were promised a way out of prostitution!

i will only marry a eritrean girl because i now how beautiful they are inside and outside and they strong women to so they make me work hard plus i love being eritrean

i'm african american and i've often wondered about different cultures from the continent (africa) and how accepting they are of african americans. especially groups that have immigrated to the states en mass over the past 25 years. i've heard that ethiopians and eritreans alike, DO NOT DATE/MARRY african americans. is it true? if so, why? i'd like to hear first hand what you guys think.

jackie: first of all I want to correct one misconception: it is NOT they don't want to marry African Americans, it is they don't want to marry ANYONE WHO IS NOT FROM THEIR COUNTRY, in some cases even if someone is from thier country but NOT FROM THEIR TRIBE -shall we say- they don't want to marry or their family forbides them. So it is not that they don't want African Americans, they don't want to marry white Americans either. I hope you understand this, it is very important!!

And it is not only the women but also the men. We prefer our own due to language, culture and political history. Also, it is not only Africans or Eritrean and Ethiopians who do this, it is also Italians, Indians, Chainiese etc. It has to do with the country not necessarily the race. So don't take it personaly.

Now I have a question for you: why is every African American so concerned about this when he/she is NEVER concerned about the welfare of Eritrea or Ethiopia? We rarely see African Americans concerned about Africa as a whole, heck the whites seem much concerned about African continent more than African Americans.

we (african americans) ARE concerned with the state africa and africans. it's really a shame that we're told so many negative things about each other that aren't really true.

i've been interested in africa since i knew that my ancestors came from there. one day, god willing, i'll get to visit.

I am sure there are some African Americans, like yourself, who are concerned about Africa but from what I have seen not many brothers are that much into Africa. I hope this will change now with the election of President Obama. I also hope you will some day visit the motherland, Africa. Good luck.

Jackie don't take this personal but African Americans don't have appeasing features and were slaves of the white people. Our parents look at that and discriminate in that way. Also the men in our family are over protective towards are sisters and cousins about dating outside their race or even devoloping a relationship towards another. But also its not only up too the men but also for their choice too and we respect that. But they are usually more in tack with their own kind then African Americans.

Also Eritrean/Ethiopians parents are bit open to dating Arabs, Asians, Caucasions, Hispanics but still they tend for us to stay with each other so they can gain habesha grandchildren and for the habesha generation to keep going.

You don't see that many Eritreans/Ethiopians women dating African Americans its more with the men actually. But the men are as picky as the women too.

Jackie their a lot more things to be concern about Africa, then questioning why Habesha women aren't dating African Americans.

hey eritra i got one question for you. when you said that eritran/ethiopan are bit open to dating arabs , are you talking about the arabs from africa like egypt , morocco or mauritania and chad (which are half arab in the north and black south ) or you are talking about the arabs that live in middle east like in yemen , koweit or you are talking about both of them ?

The Muslim Eritreans are more open to dating Arabs NOT the Christians. And even this happens very rarely because Eritreans rather stick to each other. Preferably to their specific ethnic group but as long as its same religion it is considered OK. By Arabs he means middle eastern Arabs for the most part, especially from Yemen but also from Sudan.

are u a eritrean muslim, because I am, let me tell you this, eritrean muslims would give their daughter to a good muslim with an income and a house, as long as the family know the man and are sure he is a true muslim for example he memorized the whole quran he is the imam of the mosque " leader of a mosque" or guy who always prays in the mosque with a beard and follows sunnah.

I have offered my sister to an african american man, because he was a good muslim. i knew him. so we waited for my sister to come back for holiday so he can have a look at her, but than my sister took 6 months, too long, so he found another woman.

we as muslim, regardless of background, if a man came asking for our daughters, and of we know he is of high faith and God fearing and good character, can support the woman , than we should give him our daughter, other wise Allah will be very upset that we rejected are good muslim just because of his nationality / race or other worldly matter

to the guy from canada (i'm assuming you're a man; apologies if i'm wrong). anyway...as far as having other things to be concerned about africa besides eritrean women...uh...i AM a woman...and there's nothing more important to me than having a family, which means there needs to be a man involved. i was told that eritreans and ethiopians ARE NOT interested in african americans. so i just wanted to know if it was really true or just another myth to keep african peoples apart. i'm interested in a guy from eretria and just wasn't sure if it was a good idea to date him or not.

so, with that being said, i like ALL african peoples, no matter where they're from. we're all african, that's the way i see it. there are africans in cuba, jamaica, haiti, europe and south america.

Egpytians, Lebananese, Syrians, Saudis, Israelies and Yemenites.

Thats what I commonly see in my community mixed children with fathers/mothers come from those places due to religon of course.

Jackie first I would recommend too try to build friendship, then a relationship during time. If you can manage a relationship then I suppose their hope for you to meet the parents. And this is strongly recommended you do a lot of reasearch about his country like history, politics, gossips and ethnic backgrounds. So you can seem to have something to click with them and maybe learn the language so the parents feel that their grandchildren aren't loosing their orign. And hopefully overtime the parent can see you as their daughter not only by law but possibly as 1 of them.

So good luck on asking the Eritrean fellow also if you want good impressions from him I suggest you don't make an aggresive approach and try not to raunchy because Eritrean men will look at that as a desperate attempt to gain their attention.
