Su gente, mi amigo. I spoke to my friends in Quito yesterday and the situation is very bad. They have different schedules every day for rationing the electricity. They are affraid that the water will be also rationed.

Ecuador is desperately looking for help on the neighbord countries. I guess that might means just Peru because Ecuador blew the good relations with Colombia. Thanks to Chavez.

I think Ecuador need the americans back to help them to built a big reservoir for this kind of situations.

Su gente, mi amigo I have never been in Manta, but I will certainly visit that port next time I go to Ecuador.

In the meantime lets do some dancing for Ecuador to have rain. It will help a lot.

Jack, you will not believe this but Jirehs was my favorite ristorante en la playa!!! There were a bunch of beach kids who used to hang on the wall waiting for me to finish mi camarones y arroz and I'd always leave them a big portion and then invite them in, buy them drinks and off they'd go! Did you ever get to El Acuario in Tarqui? Very cool place. Jack and Rachel, hasta la vista y espero es muy pronto! Escribame at jirehs1@yahoo.com Es verdad.

This has been an incredible group of discussions. I heard all kinds of opinions about USA. I respect everyones's but I had to defend USA of unfair criticism. I love this country and I will continue defending it because I am proud of being America.

I am glad to meet people like Jack and su gente who also are proud to be Americans and believe in helping other countries.

Su gente mi amigo. I will write sometimes to the email address you posted. It sounds funny, but I will try it. I like to keep in touch with people who share my same opinions and interestes.

Ciao y hasta pronto!

How funny. There were a couple of beach kids whom I invited to my table every Saturday. Thier food and drinks were on my tab while I enjoyed the fine cusine and weather. I didn't get to Tarqui very often as it was "off-limits" when I first arrived there. But once it opened up, I certainly enjoyed tha market. Best wishes to all.

Jack, was one of the little ninas named Mercedes? One of the last things I did down in Manta was to give my bike to some nino named Lenny. This kid had been seeing me on my bike for months and he actually asked me if he could have it. I told him to watch for me in October of '02 and, sure enough, he got a bike which originally sold for $600.(I got it used for $125). I'm guessing you're "retired" now? What are you doing now? What kind of job did you do before 1st shirt? Write to me at that email of mine.

Rachel, I'll be looking forward to your email my friend.

I do not think that 350 american soldiers in the port of Manta, Ecuador, can be called military base. But, their departure, impacted Manta's economy and it created unemployment, especially to the most need.
Now, americans are in Colombia, and the government of Ecuador is upset about. So what seems to be problem?

Unfortunately, the president of Ecuador is brain washed by Chavez who hates Americans. They don't want any americans at all in South America.

I am glad Colombia took the American military in and I think it was a very smart move. Americans will help to control the narco traffic in Colombia. At the same token Americans can keep an eye on what goes on in South America.

Su gente mi amigo. I will send you an email soon.

Jack, Rachel and Su Gente. You all are right on track with your comments--you can see things from both views! Some of the comments on here are so bias and totally only focused one way. As an American man living in the US, and married to an Ecuadorian, I see myself half-American, half-Ecuadorian. Thus, I've had the opportunity to see this politician relationship from both sides. The Americans in Manta were there to stop the drugs from ending up in the US, nothing else. The have since moved to Colombia to do the same thing. It's too bad Correa can't see it this way--it's even more unfortunate for the people of Ecuador--they are the one who are really being hurt! As for the electricity, my wife spoke with her mother last night and where they live they have no electricity from 2-4pm and 8-11pm. I'm heading there mid-December and I'll try to give you some update from the front lines! Power or no power, I can't wait to land in Quito! Viva Ecuador y viva America!

Dear Rachel,
I thought that your first comment was descent, and compeltely agree about how their prescente stimulated the economy. Your second comment however of the USA " is a rich country & powerful country" and that from what I can read you are assuming that people want to live there because they live in poor couuntries, is ridiculous. And this whole " law enforcement business" that is more efficient, doesnt make sense either. The US among other industralized countries have committed atrocities world wide for centuries, & many that have gotten away with many crimes. So this whole illusion of yours of "justice in America" is simply a brain washed idea that someone would like you to believe. Oh and one more thing, you are very egotistical to be thinking that the USA is more advance and has a duty of helping others. Its exactly the type of thinking that has the United States in this state today.

Dear Dhh
I am not sure what exactly is your point, but it is obvious that you are totally against USA. However I will respond to your comment because I do believe in every word I have said in favor of USA. I am from Italy but very proud of being an American also. Italy is a very advance country so I have a very good prespective of what progress means. USA is the most powerful country in the world. You like it or not. I am not assuming that people from poor countries wants to live here. I have seem the numbers or legals and ilegals immigrants in report. They all did anything possible and impossible to come to America.
I trust the law enforcement in this country more so than in any other country in the world. Believe me Dhh. I have traveled all over the world and I have seen a lot.
USA is only a couple and more centuries old. So I am not sure what world wide atrocities USA has committed and for centuries? I know there are a lot of anti-American propagranda all over the world and they want you to hate USA but many people doesn't have a clue about American history or the truth about it.
USA has helped every country in troubled all over the world. They are reports about it. So do you care to find out about it? It helps to do some research instead of talking from hate. There is nothing egotiscal about USA helping to the rest of the world.
It is truth that right now we are going thru some bad times, but we will survive, we will get up again and we will continue being a strong and powerful country.
MLC you are so right. Viva America and Viva Ecuador!

Hello Jack, Rachel and Su Gente. You all are right and I am happy to see that there are people still defending USA. I am a Chinese/Vietnamese/American and very proud to be an American, because I had lived under those communism countries (China and Vietnam) and know very well how bad those communism countries were/are. Look at Cuba, people nowadays are still lining up in a long line for their daily foods.
When I was still in Vietnam, the Vietnamese gov kept bad mouthing about USA, but in the other hands they (high ranking gov officers)secretly sent their kids and family to live in USA for better lives and educations etc. I really feel sorry for the poor people around the worlds that have not had a chance for schooling, therefore being brain washed by those far left.
USA is a most generous country in the world. As we all have known that whenever there was/is/be a disaster occurred in the world, we (USA) will be the first one send most of the aid in along with man powers.
I love USA until now that the current administration wants to bring USA toward a socialism country.

Rachel, you can't really can't believe that crap can you? First of all did you ever stop and think that one of the reason why Latin America is so jacked is due to all of the meddling by the WEST and the support it has given brutal murderous Dictaotorships, is no wonder why people would risk life or limp to escape the likes of Gen. Augusto Pinochet. The Shah of Iran, Suharto of Indonesia, Mogutu, Papa Doc aka Baby Doc, and today we support Uribe, and we all know that Colombia has the worse civil rights in "South America"
Rachel, give me a break we have the best health care system in the world, please, and as far as crimes goes take a good long look at our Nations Capital, then take a good long look at the Big Easy!
New Orleans, talk about a heaven for crime! But again the reason for that is the US cares so much about the rest of the World, and is so rich and powerful it can't even take care of it's own people, but it has the time to care about others LMFAO!
The reason Latin America is "jacked" is because of the crime and corruption of a few. It's like Chicago, except you can bribe your way out of anything, for much less.
Latin America also has the external threats and deceptive influence from Cuba and Venezuela, and narco mafia's. Which is why Correa is in power. I do agree that Americans have to worry about this country more. America is also under the attack of deceptive forces that either seek to benefit on the misfortunes of others, or seek our demise.
Just at one example of the guy who has his slimy hands in the pocket of many American politicians.

wang, you are a good example of why I don't think the US should meddle too much in other countries. By having experienced communism and despotic governments you recognize the deception and appreciate American values. Chavez can do plenty of harm to his country and his neighbors, but not us directly. So help Colombia is asked, and otherwise stay out of it.

We have our own enemies to worry about and many of them are in Washington D.C.

Dear Wong
You are a wise man and you understand what kind of harm socialism can do to people. You have seem it on your own country.
You are right about USA being a generous country. USA has many non-profit organizations looking up for poor people in the third world countries to help them with food, medicine and education. I know it is not enough because many poor countries have corrupted governments and people pay for.
I agree with Bella about us worring about our own enemies in Washigton DC. Absolutely, I will fight with everything I have to prevent socialism in this country. However, we also have to worry about other countries hate against USA. We can not ignored terrorirm and the fact that there many other countries threating the peace of USA and the rest of the world.
I feel very sorry for the people of Ecuador. My father worked in the oil company and I had the chance to learn their history and details about the hard time people are having to live under a socialist government.
I am proud to be an American and I will continue defending this country because I love it and I believe it is a great country.

Hello Bella and Rachel,

I totally agree with both of you that we also have our own (internal) enemies in DC. One thing I do not understand is that why don't they leave the country if they do not like USA, instead of living on the USA soil and bad mouthing about it. How disgraceful those people are?
The USA past gov may not be the perfect one, but I can guarantee you that they were the most least evil one compare to the rest of the world. I am very grateful that the American people have adopted us (refugees) and I always am proud to be an American.
There are nothing called perfect in this world, therefore we must choose the least evil one to follow and with my experience in life (I have traveled many places in the world due to my past job as an engineer for Sony) I know USA is the least evil one compare to other governments around the world.
Rachel please allow me to cut and paste your last sentence into my reply to you:
"I am proud to be an American and I will continue defending this country because I love it and I believe it is a great country".

Hear, Hear!!!! "Proud to be an American!" Having flashbacks to hearing Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA" For those that think MY country is so bad, LEAVE!!! I beg you, please go somewhere else that you think will make you happy. And in fact, anyone who is not contributing to the well being of MY nation and her allies, I wish you would leave too. I'd be happy to come help you pack. Is she perfect, no! But I am and always will be, proud to be American.

Rachel, while you and some others on this forum appear to have good intentions, allow me to difuse some of these myths and paranoia about the "socialism" we are headed for.

Remember that Medicare comes from the government...as well as your police protection, fire protection, libraries, highways/roads, mail delivery, and national defense. You've been living in a "socialized" society since you arrived in the U.S. Quit believing the lies spewing forth from the Republican party. The rest of the civilized world takes care of their citizens; why are the Repubs so selfish (and the Democrats so spineless)?
