Portuguese was and should still the official language of Timor Leste, why not portuguese, why indonesian? we've tried to speak indonesians for 25 years, in return what did they do speak for timorese?? they (indonesians) spoke of our deaths, not our future, not that of our identity??, now it comes the australians who speak on behave of other big thieves, trying to eliminate portuguese from our society as our own identity.. they want to sell english for oil and gas, misery and poverty from the timorese people......they want to steal from timorese people that haven't enough, now they push to use english and indonesians for regional purposes?? why not the ASEAN using the indonesians?? why melayu?? or chinese mandarin?? tagalok?? the thieves do always want to comply with their will although they're remaining as the thieves for the oil and gas in teh timor sea.....

Bandido,

Grow up - let the people speak, do business and learn in a language that makes them all equal. Not a language that places some higher than others. Oh, and one which they choose themselves and is not imposed for outside.

Portugese, Bhasa Indonesia and English are all foriegn languages used by paternalists. They however are useful second languages for making money.

By advocating a foriegn language (any foriegn language) you show yourself to be nothing more than another agenda driven slave of the paternalists.

Br proud of Timorese culture and no longer being anybodies colony.

Timorese culture has its root, its traditions, religions, language and other fundamental ethnicity that determined our freedom. Every single timorese recognised that who and which country fought the most for the timorese independence.. the australians back up by the henry kissinger dirty minds and soeharto wanted the oil and the death of timorese..yes.,of course we're of proud of own culture, but the australians want to mess up the salomon islands including timor??? don't they thirsty oil and gas in the timor see?? they're the one who helped the two timorese idiots horta and xanana for messing up the timorese society and jeopardise to whole the society for killing each other...

Certainty, one could have explained why, they shut their mouth and stand still for oil and gas in the timor sea...

Maubeik, Selective use of history seems to be the only way the various East Timorese factions can justify their selfish positions. Sure last year Horta and Xanana used Australia for their own ends just as Fretilin tried to use the GNR. Sure Rogerio threw the match that lit the fire and then was Voted back onto the Fretilin Commitee.Sure Lasama was involved in organising the youth on 28 April. Sure there have been nasty fights over oil and borders. Sure it was Australia that didn't want to interven in 1999 but was forced by circumstances and did a good job. Sure it was the Luciphone international community that worked hardest for Timorese independence from 75-99. Sure it was the US and the West that green lighted the Indon invasion in 1975. Sure it was Portugal that abandoned East Timor after 1974 having asset strippped the island for 400 years. Sure it was Australia that provoked Japanese to invade and kill thousands of East Timorese in the 40s. Sure it was Portugal that repressively put down all Timorese Independence by ruthless killing of dissedents for 400 years.

The point is East Timor has been poorly dealt with for a long time by all foriegn elements, none have clean hands and that is why they are working to try and make things better now. Using selective history to attack other East Timorese who have a differnet opinion is just silly and juvenile. It also doesn't help make the country stronger in fact it makes it easy for foriegn elements to continue to exploit East Timor.

As for the immature catch cry against Australia over oil you should try and understand that for Australia this is about borders. If the border with Timor changes then far greater resources than those in the Timor Sea get put at risk. Australia won't back down because it means bigger problems with Indonesia, PNG and possibly India. If you don't believe this then listen to what Mari Alkitiri said in Indonesia the other day. He knows this and was very clever in getting the deal he got in the Oil negotiations. That said I think the new Australian Government may also be more generous.

Please think about the future rather than the past and stop attacking each other, by all means attack foriegners who try and tell you what to do or what to think or what to speak.

Let's solve ET problem. the only way to solve this problem is "Aussy must return all natural resources in timor sea back to the actual owner East Timor by accepted the sea UN.s median line.
AS you are Aussy pls write to your Gov to do so.

Are you kidding. You really think ET's problems will be solved if all the natural resources are given back. I agree they should be given back but it wont solve anything. The governemnt gets US$ 113 million a month now as it is. Money has nothing to do with ET's problems.

Dear friends,
All problems will be solved if Timorese has full stomach with their natural resources Timorese can live like Brunai.
walu, even you think it can not solve the problems, just hand back the nutural resources to the actual owner...that is good enough..OK!
Stop stealing from your friend and don't treat them like Aboriginess.

Heartfelt is quite right, you are either not interested in or not aware of the facts. I hope you stay where you are doing what you do because your country is better of without people like you. Here is an article on resource rich countries in which they briefly discuss how Brunei are resource dependent and lack entrepreneurship leaving them with no economy when their resources run out. Resources may help ET, if the right policy, laws etc are put in placed and adhered to, but they will not solve the countries problems that will take good leadership and a willingness by all East Timorese to work together.
