My husband and I have been contemplating the idea of moving to DR. I don't know anyone who has made the move to the Dominican Republic and was happy with the decision. I am affraid that I will not adapt. The problem is that in order for us to move there we would have to sell our home, and then once we are there what am I going to do for a living. I am not a good house wife....
Are there any couples in their 30's that have made this change and actually recommended? Right now I am so affraid of such a change. |

Lissette, I can tell you this, most of the people that i know that goes back to DR to live, is Retired people. and it is true what u say people who lives here in the state, doenst addapt so easely, or doenst addapt at all, so they end coming back to USA. I recommend that you dont sell your house. its also depends on when you are going to live in DR. here is a link www.infoempleos.net there u can see all the jobs in DR. |

Lissette for you and your husband as a young couple would not be a good idea to move to the Dominican Republic. I'm not Dominican but have gone to the DR many times it's nice place to visit and yes maybe if you where of retiring age would be a good place to live depending on where you live because most of the country is very poor. If you do decide to move to DR you would have to consider working for an American Company there because like Puerto Rico the salaries are meger. Don't get me wrong I love my DR people but it's very tough to live there. What you may consider is buying a vacation home renting it out to make a profit to tourist vacation homes are very cheap to buy and you could have the home to stay when you go on vacation. One thing I didn't like about the Dominican Republic is that unless you live in a resort town it is extremly poor. Don't get me wrong Puerto Rico has it's poor areas but it's not as 3rd world as DR.

ahh and all this neighboorhoods, are middle upper class, and upper class. no son barrios. anyways, if you are rich and have money you are going to live like a king, but if u are an avarage person, if would be difficult.
