Feel free to use some of the photos on my website that I've taken. I think the ones of Lake Assal would be especially good. As for free time activities, I think water sports are popular, but the main activity (and I hate to say it) is chewing Khat. There is a really good article on Khat and Djibouti in general at the Esquire magazine website. Just go to their website and search for Djibouti and Khat. It should come up. I also have a link to the same article on my site. My web address is:

Why you hate to say it Russ? Qat is great. Djibuti is great. It a happy little place with all peoples come to trade over a cup of qat and a game of chess. It's the best of Africa with French, Ethiopian and Arab flavours. It is the friendliest, most relaxed country I been in. If you want to set up in Africa, this is the place to be! |

Hmmm ... I'm not sure that Khat is great. It seems to add to the poverty because people who are making very little money or don't have a job at all are spending it on Khat. It also trashes work productivity. Just my opinion. Russ Djibouti, Horn of Africa http://travldawrld.blogspot.com/ |
