I am currently living and working in Djibouti. There's not a lot of info out there so I'm glad I found this website. Please come on over and visit my blog to discuss current events about the country with someone 'on the ground.'

Hey! Thanks for replying. I will try to drop by and say hello. Actually, I like it here a lot and the weather's not too hot this time of year. We just finished the Eid celebration and the new year so it's been festive recently. Djibouti should be getting a lot of good press especially if AFCOM settles down here.

Anyway, thanks for your comments.

Martin,

Why don't you contact me via e-mail (posted on my website) with specific questions. I can tell you now though after having lived in Saudi Arabia that Djibouti is much more liberal.

Hi Russ, I'm glad you're enjoying yourself in Djibouti. You know, I was born in Djibouti, and left at the age of 5 with my family, and we settled in Ottawa,Canada. I really do miss it, and I'll have the priviledge to go there this summer. I'll only be there for a few weeks, but It'll be worth it, I have tons of family members to visit. Your timing couldn't have been better, lucky for you, you didn't have to suffer then dreaded august heat. I'm practically "canadian" since I was raised here...My parents told me i'll stand out. I'm just too excited.

I wonder, have you been here since you left as a child? If not, I'd like to hear what your impressions are when you do visit this summer. I'm taking a trip out to Lake Assal this weekend. Should provide a great opportunity for photos!! I can't wait. Talk soon, Russ

For fun? Hmmm, let me see. I'm a lot older than you so my idea of fun might be different from yours. Last weekend, I went to Lake Assal. Mostly, I enjoy heading outside the capital city and exploring the countryside. It seems really exotic at least, to me. There doesn't seem to be an active nightlife here. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Well, you will never have to worry about snow here! I've been told it's winter now but it sure feels like summer to me. I can't imagine what it's going to be like in July. As soon as I finish posting this, I'm going to take a walk downtown. My hotel is right on the edge of downtown so it's easy for me. The walks are refreshing what with bantering with all the vendors, etc. I'm sure you'll like it here. Please feel free to ask my any other questions.
