Why should I be called Greek-Cypriot? I have only been to Greece twice and besides language and religion, Cyprus is what defines me as a person and my identity. Being Cypriot is part of enjoying a multiculturalism under the "umbrella" of our cypriotness. Being Cypriot is a mixture of Greek, Turkish, a little bit of Arabic, Latin, Armenian but mostly calmness and peacefulness. I am sick and tired of watching schools breeding Greeks and Turks instead of Cypriots. I am sick and tired of people who show no respect to Cypriot flag. I am sick and tired of having no national anthem which honours and unifies the people and the land of Cyprus! Please don't get me wrong. I love Greek history, people, culture. It's just that we really need to embrace ours!!!! Peace!!!!!!

Peace!!!!!! spoken like a true Cypriot and a smart human being. the glue used to unite Greece doesn't necessarely unite the Cypriots. the flag, the national enthem, celebrating ones own holidays, ones own heroes, ones own history are the ingredients that can cement down the people of Cyprus. True Cypriots don't get to pick and choose the ethnic background of Cypriots, their religion or traditions. You love Cyprus melting pot, its own formula or not. You don't get to be Greek one day and call yourself a Cypriot the next day, for political reasons only. You don't get to ignore Cyprus history and be in love with Greece's. Greece and Cyprus are not identical twins (even they are different)but two independent countries with their own history, traditions, make up and governments. The Cypriots who want Greece as their country are the ones responsible for Cyprus division, the mess in Cyprus and the dissatisfaction of the TCs who feel betrayed by their own. People in the north talk about their country being Cyprus while people in the south have incorporated Greece in their everyday lives. They talk of better life and the future of Cyprus while the south is all about hate and properties. It will be nice to hear people wanting unity for the right reasons and who are willing to sacrifice their interests for Cyprus interests. During the Egyptian uprise, many Egyptian Americans, used their vacation time to atten the protests in Egypt. How many Cypriots are willing to sacrifice for Cyprus?

Does it follow therefore that since you believe in something else you must be a fascist? Surely there must be an allowance made for people to exchange or express their views without the need to compartmentalise them. Besides, the likelyhood of Cypriots today being "communists" is as likely as me becomming a brain surgeon.

Is whe wrong to say that Cyprus is not Greece? Is she wrong to say that these two countries are different? Is she wrong to want her own country's symbol, instead of Greece? Is she wrong to say she feels like a Cypriot and not like a Greek? Is she wrong to say that Cypriots are a mixture of past invaders and past Cypriots? Where did she say that speaking Greek makes her Greek therefore, her affluent English makes her Enlgish? Keep your gay obsession and ignorant assumptions for yourself and unless you can respond with the same level of intelligence to her, be quiet. The other monkeys have already taken their bananas and are swinging happily on the trees. Try to do the same. Most of the world uses written language to communicate while most of you use it to create another secret language of your own.

The politics in Cyprus were polarized for the wrong reasons.Unfortunately some Cyprus parties were taking ideological instructions from foreign embassies that were serving their own interests and not Cyprus. For Cypriots to deny their heritage and identity will not solve their problems. At present time, the relation of Greece and Cyprus are in excellent terms. Why rock the boat? If is not broken, why fix it?

If is not broken, why fix it? Explain this to me please Aristo. How does the wish to be called a Cypriot undermine or deny your heritage? Does your feeling of connection to a Hellenic past mean that you cannot live in one country with Turkish Cypriots called Cyprus? Does wishing to be in an independent country mean there has to be bad relations with Greece, or do you need to be ruled by Greece to be Greek. This is sensless in my view. What I am saying is that being a Greek or Turkish Cypriot should not equate to being unable to co-exist in a common state for the benefit of us all. The alternative is seperation and partition.

First of all,the majority of Turkish Cypriots are proud of their Turkish heritage. They don't want to be called any different than that. They are Turkish Cypriots and not Turkish citizens. We are Greek Cypriots but we are not mainland Greeks.Even when I visit Greece and open my mouth, they tell me right away if I'm from Cyprus!! Our Greek roots and heritage,is what kept us alive and free today.Otherwise,we could have been assimilated long time ago to every invader that had passed from Cyprus.

Learning Cyprus history and not just bits and pieces of it, will make one reconsider beliefs and attitudes. Admitting who you really are is not a shame. Either Greek, Turkish or Cypriot. Most of European Nations have common backgrounds and identities. They are all very proud of it. So are we!!! But at the end of the day we are prouder for being Cypriots! Is this so bad? Why does it have to be bad for some of you? What's your problem anyway? You have to start accepting the fact that in Cyprus there are Cypriots as well! Not just Greeks and Turks!!!!
