Raul Castro's government has decided to let thousands of Cubans get title to the state-owned homes they rent in a legal decree that might lay the groundwork for broader housing reform.

There will be no true change in Cuba. These are just small reforms to show the rest of the world that Raul is bringing change. One thing that he wants is for the U.S. to lift the embargo, and by doing this, he thinks he'll get his way. Well, he just might, if a Democrat ends up in The White House.

People are so gullable. They think that Raul is bringing change. I'm in contact with family in Cuba and there still hasn't been any true change. If Raul wanted to bring real change, he would do the following:

1. Allow free and fair elections.
2. Open the prison doors and release all political prisoners.
3. Allow freedom of the press (now there's only one media group controlling Cuba: The government newspaper (El Granma) and the government-owned television stations.
4. Give back all of the propoerties that the government seized from everyone.
5. Allow individuals to bear arms.
6. Denounce and punish all violatons of human rights (for this one, he would have to start by denouncing himself and his brother Fidel)

The list goes on and on and on.....

However, he can't do any of the above because he would have to flee Cuba so they don't assassinate or encarcerate him.

If he really wanted to do Cuba a favor, he'd hop on a plane along with Fidel (if he's still alive)just like Batista did 50 years ago.

I am Cuban and am sad to say that there will be no real change in Cuba until the Cubans in the island say "Enough is Enough" and hit the streets in a civil war. Yes, there will be bloodshed, but didn't this country's forefathers have to shed blood as well during the American revolution? No change could ever be brought about without sweat and blood.

This is just a can of worms as he is well aware that 65% of those homes have owners outside of Cuba.

peter, you have no clue what you are even talking about. our grandmother's homes were taken away by the state and turned into who the hell knows what and everyone was forced to move. i won't even write here what she would say when someone ever called her 'companera'...

Quote Michelle:

Thank God I have never lived under communism, but I grew up closely with many who have. The stories they tell, will make your hair stand. For example, when I was a kid my friends cousin who had just arrived from Cuba, she was beautifull and they said she was a little "crazy". Apparently she came back from the "children's labor camp" and she had been raped and molested by both adults and other kids.

When I told my friend that I would never send my child to a place like that. They said, "you have no idea what it is like to live under a system like that". You don't act according to what is demanded, you don't eat, you don't study, don't have access to any healthcare (which they say is terrible), you are harrassed shamed/repudiated, and so is all of your family. When you depend on the government for everything, you do whatever you are told.

The stories are endless and scary. There are also the Castro inspired waves of communism that swept over Latin America over the years which also resulted in economic woes, which resulted in waves of immigration to the US.

There is a reason that millions of people are throwing themselves in shark infested waters, and cross dangerous deserts, to come to this country. Even with Bush as president.

Maria the Cuban Hero"]I am Cuban and am sad to say that there will be no real change in Cuba until the Cubans in the island say "Enough is Enough" and hit the streets in a civil war. Yes, there will be bloodshed, but didn't this country's forefathers have to shed blood as well during the American revolution? No change could ever be brought about without sweat and blood.

What a gal. She has been bragging for weeks that she is American 100% today she is a Cuban. Her spots change so often we are not sure if she is a leopard or a Liger? I guess it all depends on the day the food stamps arrive. For years she has demanded an end to apartheid in Cuba now that has been accomplished it is not enough and the demand list gets longer. So the bitching goes on and on. Her latest craving is a blood bath for Cuba where Cubans fight Cubans and the exiles like Marie arrive to pick the carcass clean. She is willing to shed anyone else's blood but her own. Typical exile, for years they have pressured the US Marines to invade even though Cubans are the lowest numbers of Hispanics in the military service. The hero in the barrio Basulto purposely flew into Cuban airspace and had already buzzed Havana and dared the Cubans shoot him down. He was smart enough to leave his two new wing men behind while he zipped safely back to Miami. It did not start his hoped for war. Now she wants the worst type of war a civil one. All so Marie for whatever perverted reason can get what she thinks Cuba owes her? For 49 years we have listened to their crocodile tears year in year out. Never once considering that they were to blame for much that was happening in Cuba. Unbeknownst to them sympathy has slipped away and the exiles are laughed at as Cuba continues to modernize and advance economically. After 49 years of failure she needs one more try because she knows what’s best for Cubans. Sad, sad sack is Marie is a menace to all Cubans both on the island and off. She will willingly wear any one else's Red Badge of Courage" A true sniveling gusano for all the world to see!!

The reason is money. Even the forum burro should know that they are here because of economic reasons and not to vote.

Gracias Ana.
Me gustan muchas otras cosas: Aviones, motos, autos, patinar, artes marciales, nadar etc.
Soy bastante polifacetico. Me encanta en el foro fastidiar a las ratas con los animales, pues son lo opuesto de estos hipocritas.
