Ahhh...the efficiency of a Communist state !!

Fortunately for Cuba and its citizens they have only one direction to go in the quest for a better life...and that direction is UP, because they have been living in misery for the past 50+ years !!

"For various reasons, there is a considerable percentage of state land sitting vacant, so it must be handed over to individuals or groups as owners or users in an effort to increase production and reduce imports," the decree said. Cuba has come to recognize that small private farmers such as Gourrie, who each year sells tons of potatoes and other vegetables to the state, are more productive than government-run enterprises.

More proof of the failure of socialism/communism!

Wait and see, the new farmers will need fertilizers and seed for many crops although seed potatoes are available. There is nothing new in this the bulk of existing production comes from the 200,000 small farmers but now there are more of them.

The high cost of food purchases have caused this new development as Cuba wants to replace food purchased overseas with home grown products. Common sense but not any type of failure. Now if the gringos do the same perhaps the 44 million americans going to bed hungry will have some hope.
