Old Jim, lot of your Chinese operas are in Cantonese and lot of them are in Mandarin and others may be in different dialects. But let's get to the point we can not condone China for their human rights abuses according to the UN they have viloated many.

Why do you want to learn so many dialects for? The only one you really need in China is Mandarin.

One of the 9 executed is Han Chinese.

ps
africans are replacing european colonialists for chinese colonialists,i bet that's a win-win situation for them.
At least China is leaving behind infrastructure in Africa--roads, railways, power plants, etc. Europeans?

Good observation. And China will be super power. What that would look like?
A more PEACEFUL world.

The last time China was involved in a short war was 30 years ago, back in 1979, in an one month border conflict with Vietnam. The last prolonged war direct involving China was the Korean War of 56 years ago.

And U.S.? This current U.S. war in Afghanistan is already in year 8, with NO end in sight. It's on its way to surpass the American Revolution (1775-1783) and Vietnam (1965-1973) as the longest war directly involving the U.S.

While I would be interested to see some sort of world court to enforce human rights concerns we can see by the American behavior that it is not likely to work at this stage of civilization. The only nation to be found guilty of terrorism, under a slightly different term, was the United States for mining the harbors of Nicaragua and that judgment was handed down approximately twenty four hours before Ronald Reagan abrogated the treaty under which the United States was a member of that court.

In a similar way the united states has sanctioned and condoned such activities as hijacking of Cuban airliners, coupes d'etat, and so on. The United States has taken little or no stand on human rights when it is in the economic interests of big business allowing conditions resembling slavery to obtain in the Marshal Islands where Chinese women are kept behind chain link fences to work long hours for little pay just so their garments can be stamped "Made in the USA." Only two nations allow the execution of children, the United States and Iran. And so on.

The point is that while there are many nations with much to answer for in this regard the United States also has some explaining to do in regard to how the people of the world are treated by the USA. China may do some nasty things, but they don't bomb innocent people in Iraq and Afghanistan and elsewhere.

Don't try to sign me up for your campaign of criticism against the human rights problems of China unless you are also willing to address the human rights concerns of the Palestinians and a number of other people around the world.

Perhaps he likes Chinese opera too. Perhaps he just has the talent. I don't. I can barely keep from starting a sentence in Spanish and finishing it in Italian. A linguist I am not.

RayH of course I can speak Chinese but I am no dummy like you. I learn Chinese so that I can deal with them at a professional level not at a friend level, I do not trust them. China is a rogue country to many of us in the USA.

As noted during the Sarah Palin campaign, rednecks are 1/3 of European-Americans or 1/4 of U.S. population. That's why McCain picked her as a running mate, to target this important segment of U.S. population.

<quoted text>Actually, Our USA is biggest oppressor, violator, invader, destabliser, exspansionistic... we have over 736 plus US military bases(As year 2007) around the world- a US global militaristic/imperialistic Empire! Numbero UNO!
Which country is bulling the Japanese TODAY over a military base? I guess the Japanese forgot that they only own their country if the superpower dosen't want it. Someone should tell them it's the right of the superpower to tell them which freedom they have and they should give in to the bully,(sorry, champion of freedom). Who do they think they are? An independent sovereign nation?

In the US? I thought you were the expert on irrigation in Chengdu. One who had never heard of the 2000 year old irrigation system there! Perhaps Blowfish (who has been very quiet lately) will not mind if you are also given the name "Blowfish 2" Full of shit and wind!
