Haiti's poorest go hungry as food aid stays in storage

As an educator, I recently went to Haiti. We do not need to adopt their future and bring them to the U.S., but be responsible Americans and educate them on how they can be proud, self-sufficent Haitian citizens.

Better yet... Every LIBERAL should have to adopt one Haitian family for one year. 80% of liberals would renounce liberalism forever. The other 20% would be convicted of murdering the lazy sassy ungrateful Haitians they adopted and tried to help.

What pisses me off is that the people who need the food are still suffering, is itm their fault the food is rottening in the warehouses? Guns are pointed in faces to keep the trucks from entering, I understand the food is being sent, the fact of it not being used, and sitting in warehouses, is not the Hatian peoples fault, they have no weapons to fight back with, as the U.S. Goverment is, we should go in with planes, trains, or automobiles, blow these road blockers away so this food can be given to these people, no one understands my point, I don't give a rats ass, I just know some one is standing in between the food and the people, they need to get blown away into ashes!

It is not our responsibility. Our country is mentally codependent, ignoring its own issues and poor in favor of helping other countries.
IF we help other countries, there should be stipulations. For instance, Haitians should agree to birth control so they are not bringing more mouths to feed.
We should be teaching them how to care for themselves. Why would anyone want to be self-sufficient if they know there will be someone there to provide all their needs?
That is the message we are sending to other countries.
You can read the Mexican Immigration laws right on the Internet. If you immigrate to that country, you have to prove you can take care of yourself financially before you are allowed in.
I think we ought to scratch out the phrase on the Statue Of Liberty where it says to "give us your poor."
I think other countries should be opening their borders and joining to help those who are trying to help impoverished countries.
But, again, I think our country should start with their OWN LEGAL residents.
There is something very very wrong with the concept that legal residents cannot afford medical care- but, we afford it to illegal immigrants.
There is something very, very wrong with supplying food and money to other countries when there are legal citizens living here whose children are starving.
Our priorities are very screwed up.

I agree. Instead of our taxes being collected for all these special interest endeavors, why isn't there a place on our income tax returns to check if we agree to support the illegal immigrants or not. The ones who want them out, pay less taxes and the ones who feel strongly about them being able to stay, will have money taken from their returns in order to fund it.
If they want to go one further, they can agree to sponsor one of the families.
We can do this with all immigrants who come here with their hand out.
Put your own cash where your mouth is, so to speak.

It's very hard to believe that nothing can be done to help Haiti (http://www.haitionlinecommuni ty.com) At the end of the day if the people of Haiti don't put there heads together to make a change we might still be hearing about this years to come. You hearing about donations being made to the people of Haiti but no one really know what happens to this money or what its doing to help.

Don't believe the media, I am a non Haitian, I have been to Haiti 3times this year, things are getting better, but still a very long way to go. The only way for Haiti to prosper is is through economic reforms, many local Haitian don't have the resourses or the experience to find there way out of the problem. Our Group goes to Haiti to help build it economy. Haitian and Non Haitian alike can help Haiti by being a postive voice, if you can visit then see for your self. If you can't visit, stay connected becuase in the next few months chances will start, a little here,a little there! By carnaval 2009 lots of new postive things will be coming out of Haiti!

Nothing will grow. The soil is polluted to the point of being one giant fecal sewer. There are no nutrients, only mud.
Deforestation made Haiti vulnerable to mass flooding and further contamination of the soil with salt and other matter during hurricanes. Why do we hear of so many dying, especially since the DR is the environmental opposite of Haiti?

The corrupt government is primarily to blame....like Zimbabwe is now, the system rewards the rich and the military, while the masses are left to starve and are subject to torture and death by the regime if they dare speak against it. Yet it's classified as a democracy. Go figure.
