US man tells of 'humiliating' arrest in Dominica

Full story: My Mother Lode

A Southern Californian said Friday that he and his partner were taunted, humiliated and subjected to inhumane treatment when they were arrested and jailed after being escorted off a gay cruise in the Caribbean this week.

We'll cut scuzzy Celebrity Cruises off our list of preferred carriers for deliberately hauling us into a trap and feeding us to the lions in a fit of crusading homophobia. The big "X" on the ship's stack is a warning sign for trouble ahead
.
We'll also cut Dominica off our list for being run by sociopathic sadists who get their jollies torturing and robbing tourists they kidnap off cruise ships at gunpoint. We're done with them
.
We have better places to go and classier ways to get there for our vacation time and money

In your worldview, misogynisism is king. So much for equality of genders, which, the opposite of, your comment is based upon. Hate to be your mate in this life...

I love my Homosexual friends, and the "Blacks" too, but they always express support for our pandering politicians and the high paid agenda driven Government judges who are using hard earned taxpayer money to inflict Homosexuality on the nation, and on innocent little California school children.

By the same token, though, when they visit foreign lands that have a more enlightened legal/political system, they should be careful to comply with local law and custom. After all, it is an accepted truism that, when in Rome, one should do as the Romans do.

>Mayer said he was naked in his cabin and nearly naked on the balcony. "I was less partially clothed than I should have been."

Sounds like dissembling, a truly tortured phrasing.

>"I would not spend my money in a country that does not support gay behavior," he said.

Sounds like a very primitive phrasing.

Their recounting of homophobic criminal justice hardly differs from big city America. While I suspect A.A. could help them, in the meantime their behavior is a public relations disaster for the glbt community.

I really don't know what the bug is up your behind over cruises. So you don't like the venue. Big deal. Lots and lots of people do.

I take "less partially clothed than I should have been" to mean something like not wearing a shirt. But I'm sure the real sin was sitting too close to his lover.

I don't know why you pretend to be stupid. I said these cruises have a demographic I don't really admire: Generally all white, privileged, apolitical, substance abuse prone, clueless.

I also listed the lack of regulation over cruises, the frequent disease outbreaks, fires, criminals in the crew, missing passengers.

Now, I know what the phrase is trying to express. He's trying to deny they had sex in public view. The notable point is how tortured the syntax is. He didn't say, "I wasn't wearing a shirt." He gave this convoluted phrasing that appears the opposite of candid. This is elementary. What is wrong with you?

If this were a matter _only_ of homophobia then why weren't more men on the cruise similarly arrested? Because in addition to the apparent homophobia in that shthole country these two men did something that attracted unwanted attention.

It's a public relations disaster.

I think it's a mix here. I've seen enough to have an idea how these guys were behaving / parading...part of the reason folks tend to give gays a hard time still today. We need to show a little pride and some decency. WRT the country, cruises should not port call where gays are unwelcome...seriously vote with your money.

Being an ex cop I'm sure you know how to word a statement, your wording makes you sound like your not telling the truth. Why would you be arrested for being gay on a ship full of gay people? Why only you if not that you where seen doing something that was mis-conduct, even in this country you would have been arrested for indeasent exposer!

We are trying hard to get our rights and stunts like this set us back two steps, why will anyone want to give us rights if your going to abuse them? Think with your upper head, it's common sence to be careful when traveling, by the way, Jamaica and Egypt will kill you on sight for that behavior.

You can see that "Hetero" Hank would just love to be in there, cutting off some nuts himself!
He'd probably do it with his teeth!!
Stay away from our nuts Hank. We have enough fun with them ourselves! We don't need closet case einsteins like you, playing around with our nuts. Get back on those gay pr0n websites you normally watch, before you get too hot obsessing about other guys' nuts!!

Sad, truely sad. I disagree with you and will not attack your oppinion but understand that we have the same civil rights as you do, live in the same country as you do, pay the same taxes as you do, have the need for love as you do, have the same organs you do and have the same desire for sex as you do. Hate never got this country anywhere, we only advance with concerning ourselves with the health of the country, the health of the economy. Worrying about what I do in my bedroom has no more meaning than me worring about what you do in yours.

Thank you. You've just confirmed that you convicted these man based primarily on your distaste for cruises in general and gay cruises in particular. Whether or not there is any truth to your generalization about cruise customers, those generalizations do not constitute convincing evidence.

Except you're in denial. Just because the country and police there are as homophobic as the police would be in Philly, or New York, etc., doesn't mean the gay men are blameless themselves.

The abc news article quotes one of them as saying, "nature took its course."

His phrasing in the present article was sketchy, and differs from that in the abc quote. Anyone, and I mean anyone, can see that.

Atlantis is also changing its tune. Before the response was happy talk - it's a misdemeanor, everyone's having a great time. Now it's morphed into we sat with the men for ten hours and contacted the State Dept., etc.

My opinion about cruises is based on fact. They're one of the higher risk, organized vacations you can take, if you would look into it.

The role of alcohol on Atlantis Cruises is hardly a secret. Perhaps you have issues.

These men were arrested plain and simple on any pretense to get a gay couple arrested. And NOWHERE is the US does one spend almost 24 hours in a jail cell without a toilet or running water for being partially naked. No one is the US would be threatened with having an anal exam by police officials. Anyone who thins that is just plain stupid or ignorant.

Shame on Atlantis cruises for docking at a port where their clients were targeted for arrest. Shame on Rich Campbell (CEO of Atlantis) for looking more at the power of the almighty green back dollar more than the safety and security of his clients.

And shame on any posters to this site that attack this former policeman and his partner rather than attacking the barbaric and homophobic polices of Dominica. I hope these men sue Atlantis for everything they can get for allowing a cruise ship to recklessly dock in a place obviously hostile and unsafe for gay me to openly express affection.

I don't believe those who operate our own corrupt legal/political system have any business telling the sovereign nation of the Dominican Republic how to run its affairs. Do you?

P_Smith.

First of all, even Freud's most ardent disciples admit he was a fraud and a quack.

Getting to the excellent question you pose, the radical Homosexual community has gotten pandering free-spending out-of-control politicians and their corrupt high paid agenda driven Government judge pals to use hard earned taxpayer money Government takes from the taxpaying minority to "legalize" the "marriage" of two or more persons of the same sex, as well as to teach Homosexuality - and other abnormal sexual practices - to innocent little non-Homosexual children who are incarcerated in forced taxpayer funded Government schools under penalty of revolutionary LAW.

Since the revolution, the world has changed. Even though the revolutionaries *(now in power)* have retained most of the symbols of the previous Government does not make it any less so. We are all Palestinians now. Unless we unite for the purpose of the return of civilized standards, civilization will be brushed into the dustpan of history.

You're stupid and in denial.

Anti RNC protesters in Philly during that Convention were held for up to seven days without being given a phone call or access to a lawyer. Families had no way of knowing they were there. This was for hundreds of people. They did have one communal, open toilet for a score or so of the protesters put in each pen, though. One protester who resisted being moved from one pen to another reported being dragged by his genitals by a female cop. That's sexual torture.

Apparently, you are too fcking drunk or ill informed to have heard of the African immigrant who was anally raped with a toilet plunger while in a NYC jail.

And these are just two examples. There's this thing called "google." With it you could search for - prison jail rape sexual abuse prisoner cops - or whatever terms you like.

There's no excuse for your level of willful ignorance. None.
