after they killed the girl from kentucky, the newspapers said the cops are getting no help on the case. why would they expect help from cape verdians? are there a more savage collection of people than cape verdians? they kill each other and don't care. thank god we are probably only a couple of generation from the end of these savages

Every time a crime happens it is unquestionable, extremely sad and unfortunate for the victim, and the world. But when we make negative comments by generalizing and making the entire community responsible for what the killers do it is only going to make the matter worst. Perhaps this is one of the main factors why the cops and city officials continue to be unsuccessful in reaching the criminals. When these young Capeverdean men commit crime it is not because of the families they come from. In general Capeverdeans are hardworking people and these young men come from well-structured and Christian background unlike other ethnicity group who family may have had history of crack and violent family history. This is not the case of Capeverdean family, yet the teenagers go out there and get themselves involved with unfortunate situation – this is due to influence and peer pressure; many other immigrant families from other part of the world have gone through this well and still going through. However, as the news paper continues to write story by pointing a particular ethnicity group out of every crime the matter will only get worst. When we start to work as a “community” or as a “country” without separating each other on the basis of our personal background (human) things will get better. With regards to your comment, that “thank God we are only couple of generation from the end of these savages” that’s ignorant and to your bad luck, Capeverdean community continues to grow and in NE alone it is estimate about over half million. That’s a lot!!

Omg I am abosolutly shocked at what that idiot said up top...I am a Cape verdian myself and I can tell you from living half of my life in cape verde. when I was there I violence in our community were practicly unheard of. Cape verdians are hardworks and who value family values. How dare you call us savages, one advice I can give you do your research before you go around generalizing a group of people.

I am English and have worked in the construction industry in Cape Verde for the last 4 years.
The Cape Verdean tradesmen are industrious and take real pride in their work. They are equal to their peers anywhere in the world. Management is below par but the workers can be really productive and produce to a standard found anywhere in the States and Europe.
On each of the 30 plus occassions that I visited Cape Verde I have found the people warm, welcoming and generous without exception.
The anti-capeverdean points do not stand to scrutiny and incite racial hatred. Had this posting been made in the UK, it may have constituted a crime.
The fact that Cape Verde has the third lowest aids rate in the world proves that it is socially cohesive. Crime is several times lower than the United Kingdom, let alone the United States.
Of all the countries in the world Cape Verde has the 4th highest level of reinvestment into expanding its industrial base.
Every single economic indicator demonstrates that this country and its people are on course for a golden future.
For those Cape Verdean youth who may be tempted by the nihilistic gangster culture in some areas of the States.
Get proud, get perspective and visit home to see what opportunities you can create for you and your family.
I am astonished at the sum of the business opportunity that exists in Cape Verde, even at the nadir of the recession.

Us Cabo Verdianos are very industrious people and many know that. It is sad that an innocent person lost their life. There are many knuckleheads out there in our society that are from every culture, ethnicity, religion, and race that cause harm to innocent people. I guess Mr Rizzo doesn't understand that there would be no Cabo Verde if it werent for EUROPEANS needing place to dock ships, while bringing SLAVES to the new world. Many of the cultures and socio-economic conditions that exist today for people of color are because of European actions throughout history across the world. So I would thank those European ancestors of yours for the Cape Verdean culture that you hate so much.

Not to say crime of any kind should be acceptable but you have to understand the underlying factors that are at play.

I am proud to be Cape Verdean. My family is from cabo verde,my family has some of the hardest working people I know ,we are not lazy ,we do not look for hand outs ,we do not kill each other,those people that killed someone have lost their way,"DO NOT" put all Cape Verdeans in one boat..
