This is all very interesting for me to read:) i also am a cape verdean.i was born and raised in mass recently moved to the south..i find it so intriguing that the people here try to tell me i'm not black..i consider my race to be black because that's what we are and my nationality is cape verdean..people can be so ignorant here and it's very disturbing to me..i've heard the most idiotic comments like "you're too pretty to be black!" I just turn around and say, so you dont think your people are pretty??? we are black and im most proud of it...especially here! The south seems to still have alot of predjudices, even in 2009. They just want to know what you are so they can put you in some kind of catagory..i tell them that in the north we are humans first, race second...we all just blend together. black, white, hispanic, asian...it's all good in the north!
