"Zero Immigration is Good Immigration.
Countries like Japan etc. don't have any active immigration but are still doing well and are still developed countries.
How about use the resources/money/efforts put into immigration towards helping the Aboriginal peoples of Canada grow?
International persons should only be able to become Canadian through long-term marriage for example married for 10 years with a Canadian or 5 years with a child born between this foreign spouse and a Canadian citizen. other than this nobody should become Canadian citizen unless really exceptional contributions such as Olympic medal, exceptional scientific research, served in the Canadian military for certain time and actually take part in battles etc.
Btw, foreign ownership of Canadian land and real estates should be banned. Only citizens should have the privilege/right to purchase and own Canadian land and properties.
the current 'permanent residency' can be changed to 'temporary residency' or simply a 'resident permit' which needs to be updated every 1,2 or 3 years. in the current system, if a 'permanent resident' does not meet certain conditions they will lose that status too. it is not 'permanent' anyways.
the future 'resident permit' should not automatically lead to Citizenship simply because they have stayed in Canada for 3 years. all international residents should not have access to Canadian citizenship unless they are married to a Canadian, or have other exceptional contributions.
refugee status should also be temporary. when situations improve in their original countries, they should be expected to return. and refugee status should be granted to exceptional cases only. "
