Has anyone worked with The March Group to sell or acquire a business? The spiel sounds good, but would like to hear if anyone has had experience with them - either good or bad!

The other posts seem to disappear after a while. Especially if there is anything negative written. Should tell you something right there.

My wife and I went to a symposium last week in Austin. I could not figure why they need money up front to sell my business. They wanted $59,000 just to get started. You don't pay a real estate agent up front to sell your home. I was very disappointed and the guy in the back, some vice-president had dandruff from H*** and look very unprofessional.

Oh by the way, they kept saying that the reason they charged is because sellers back out. You get me 2 or 3 million as was suggested and I'll give you 20% and believe I will not back out.

I sold my business through TMG and was very happy with the experience. They laid out my plan, followed it to a tee and sold it almost 1 year to the date of listing it. I think so many are hung up on the down payment which is applied to your sales commission anyway. That money simply does not dissapear. Remember your goal is to sell your business and i was thrilled with the results.

They are a boiler room with 50 people on the phone trying to get you to a seminar to convince you the time is right to sell your business. They have taken in millions of dollars in fees from hundreds of companies and can't sell your business on a timely basis. They have no buyers interested in your industry.

I had my business sold by The March Group and it was the most awesome experience of my life. I built a business from my bedroom and 2 employees to a 4mm 37 employee company. They sold my business took me through the process to a auction type bid and I am now retired at age 47. Keep in mind when you read the BS on these blogs there are companys that are unsaleable or worth a lot less than the owners think and there are some mad owners trying to express that in these blogs, including other companys trying to condemn. Trust your experience and not the BS you read.

I think it will be difficult for you to separate the legitimate responses from those posted by persons affiliated with March Group or their competitors.

For what its worth, I attended their "seminar" in Louisville, KY this past May and a couple of things seemed odd.

My post is from the perspective of a potential client that chose not to proceed.

1. They tried to make me feel special by saying that I was the only attendee invited to move forward with them. I have since learned that at least two other attendees were "selected" by March Group to engage.

2.$49k seems like a lot of money to spend on a business appraisal. It appears to me that conducting business valuations is their primary sources of revenue.

3. I was never asked any really tough questions by representatives of the company that I normally get when talking to others interested in understanding my business model.

4. The presenter made a strong case that now is a really good time to sell a business. But I kind of had the feeling that he would say the same thing 10 years ago, 5 years ago, or 5 years in the future. It just didn't seem sincere.

I hope this helps.

I am looking for any seller's experience with March regarding their marketing efforts. What did they accually do to get prospective buyers? How did the buyers' offers compare to the March "valuation"? How detailed and helpful was the valuation analysis?, the confidential business review?
