Any student of world history will tell you that if he had to pick a single nation to pin all the world's troubles on, Britain is far and away the obvious choice.

Stretching more than a millennium to the crowning of Alfred the Great in 871, the British Monarchy is simply one of the oldest continuous governmental bodies on earth. For centuries, its power over its citizens was nearly absolute. By the dawn of the 20th century, it controlled nearly one third of the globe. But while other totalitarian reigns have been put on trial and forced to make amends, the British crown has maintained its grip on power, and so avoided being called to account for its numerous crimes against humanity.

British Commonwealth is the British Empire controlling 30% of the people of the world, 25% of the world's countries including 53 countries and having the majority of the voting power in the UN (United Nations).

What exactly has Britain done that's so awful?

By our analysis, the crimes of Britain fall into four major categories:

1. Genocide. Modern Britain was founded through the systematic erasure of indigenous culture and language.

2. The Industrial Revolution. The health, safety, and wages of workers took a back seat to owners' greed for ever-higher output and profits.

3. Global Misrule. The terrorist threat has its roots in British mismanagement of the Middle East, particularly Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and Saudi Arabia. Britain's imperialist past has so enraged Muslim extremists.

4. Bad Inventions. Slums, prisons, child labor, bad hygiene, the Black Plague, concentration camps, you name it.

Four examples of British imperial subjugation and complete disregard for the sanctity of native cultures:

1. British establishment, maintenance and profiteering from the African slave trade (both public and private)

2. British enslavement of the Chinese populace in the form of opium addiction. It was not until 1700 that the British introduced China to the process of mixing opium with tobacco so that it could be smoked.

3. British attempts at Britainization in Ireland following the 1801 Act of Union and subsequent persecution of Irish Catholics in favor of the Anglican Church.

4. The British used to tie up Indians from India to one end of the cannons and blow them up to smithereens.

You must be aware of how England raped and pillaged Wales during the Industrial Revolution, paying no mind to the welfare of the Welsh working class or the environment. As Englishman profited, the Welsh countryside became a wasteland of sweetshop factories and slag heaps.

Unless the reimperialized Iraq gets up and running again the Brits will be pulling rickshaws for Chinese tourists because the tanks of their autos will be dry.

I like the monarchy. I do believe the richness and some of the pagentry could be toned down a bit.

You otherwise like them or you don't or they have nothing to do with your heritage.

I'm a proud Nfld'er, I'm proud of my english heritage and view some of those who wish to see the Queen removed are some of the same lot who want to tear down every other tradition in this country. It must be a dread every day hating everything from the word Christmas to the Lord's prayer, from the Queen to Canada's/America's friendship,etc etc etc....

There's plenty of other places in the world where these things don't exist, so why not move there?

Unfortunately, all empires throughout time have been as responsible for as many atrocities as they have advancements. The british have been no exception.In fact they are more responsible for the waywardness of the human race than any other recognized power throughout human history. This is predominately due to their greed, ignorance and power grabbing as well as their arrogance and flagrant disregard for their fellow man. I think all nations are guilty of this on some level and the british had greater longeivity of power so had a longer time to affect the world negatively. No nation is infallable but it is the nation that is unwilling to self reflect and atone for their actions and atriocities that will be more damaging to humanity on the whole. The british are truly one of the culprits here and are incapable of atonement. They use pure arrogance and a self righteous demeanour when dealing with their checkered past and therefore they should shoulder a lot of the blame for the havoc in the world today. As a humanist i could care a less if the british people and all their anglo saxon waspy bloodline disappeared from the history books and from the future of the world. From 85% of the globe to a small country nestled between scotland and wales?! the natural order of things has a funny way of restoring itself.

I recognise what you're saying but I'd just like to double-check if some guy in the British Empire really sat down and invented the Black Plague (commonly known to most as the Black Death) or bad hygiene.

The British Empire was the largest ever. It covered 36.6 million square kilometers. The Mongol Empire was the 2nd largest empire.
