The exact number of Bosniak, Croat and other civilians murdered by Chetniks has never been established. In his book Crimes Against Bosnian Muslims 1941-1945, Bosniak historian Semso Tucakovic quoted that of 150,000 Bosniaks who lost lives in WWII, some 100,000 were murdered by Chetniks, although it is unclear if it was Draza's chetniks or other chetnik formations. He also listed at least 50,000 Bosnian Muslim names directly known to have perished from Chetniks. According to Croat WW2 historian Vladimir Zerjavic, a total of 29 thousand Moslems and 18 thousand Croatians were killed by Chetniks during WW2.[1] Zerjavic figures have been cited as too conservative and figures of up to 300,000 non-Serbs have been suggested.[2]
Some of the major crimes perpetrated by Chetniks against ethnic Bosniaks in World War II include:- July 1941, Herzegovina (Bileca/Stolac)- 1,150 Bosniaks slaughtered; - December 1941/January 1942, Eastern Bosnia (Foca, Gorazde)- 2,050 Bosniaks slaughtered; - August 1942, Eastern Bosnia/Sandžak (Foca, Bukovica)- 1,000 Bosniaks slaughtered; - August 1942, Eastern Bosnia (Ustikolina, Jahorina)- 2,500 Bosniaks slaughtered; - October 1942 - Central Bosnia (Prozor)- 1,250 Bosniaks slaughtered; - January 1943, Sandžak (Bijelo Polje)- 1,500 Bosniaks slaughtered; - February 1943, Eastern Bosnia/Sandžak (Foca, Cajnice, Pljevlja)- 9,200+ Bosniaks slaughtered - the worst single massacre campaign by Chetniks in World War II.[3]

For all we know, your grandfather was a murderer and was secretive about his past because he was worried he would get caught and punished for his crimes.

Also, the largest ethnic groups in and around Jajce are Bosniaks and Croats, and if I were you, I wouldn't mention that your grandfather was a Chetnik. They are looked down upon as much as nazis and bringing up how your related to one isn't going to do you much good in your search.

I gave you the information above:

Still other Cetniks rallied behind Draža Mihailović, a 48 year-old Army officer who had been court-martialed by Nedic and was known to have close ties to Britain. Early in the War Mihailovic offered some resistance to the German forces while collaborating with the Italians. By July 22, 1941 the Yugoslav Government-in-Exile announced that continued resistance was impossible. Although Mihailovic and his exiled government would maintain a fierce propaganda campaign to convince the Allies that his Chetniks were inflicting great damage on the Axis, the Cetniks did little for the war effort and openly collaborated with the Germans and Italians while fighting Ustase and Partizans. At its peak, Mihailovic's Cetniks claimed to have three hundred thousand troops. In fact they never numbered over thirty-one thousand.Chetnik advocates argue that these were tactical collaborations on a local level, with the main aim to fight their common enemy - the Partisans. Chetniks viewed their ideological struggle against the Partisans as one more important than the fight against the Germans. However this collaboration continued until the end of WWII, and the allies withdrew support from the Chetniks in 1944. Mihailovic was executed in 1946 for treason. The extent of Chetnik collaboration with the German and Italian armies as well as their vicious war against the pro-Allied Partisans is well documented in dozens of books, including "The Chetniks."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chetniks#Chetnik...

These people fought for an ethnically pure Yugoslavia and at times committed genocide against the other constituent peoples of Yugoslavia. As much as you and some serbs would like to think, Chetniks are murderers, they were murderers during WW2 and they were murderers during the Bosnian civil war.

Ok - I did not join this forum for this - who is right i do not know - how are things in Canada? This is a long way from home.....
Politics are crap - I am no cetnik nor partisan, throw away your shit and talk sense. I am wanting to know about a place - not who killed who and why. I can also throw realms of passages from books - like yours most are crap but whats the point? Why should a simple question like mine stir such a shite response from you? Past is past - lets now work together friend....

ViperBiH is completely right, if you are going to Bosnia, don't expect anything less than the attitudes we have given you. Also remember that there are tons of people alive who suffered or whose family members suffered because of your grandfather and his friends in WW2 and during the civil war, and you bringing up the fact that your the grandson of a Chetnik isn't going to help you, you may even be assaulted. I am not your friend and I don't know anything about this village, nor do I care much to help you, your views and history would be more welcomed in the Serbia forum.

Just to let you know, I am from that area. It is an amazing city with amazing people. Do not listen to the nonsense being typed by those imbeciles. It is all pointless propaganda. Your grandfather, if he fought in the war, is a respectable man who fought for his people and family, who were being attacked by those muslim terrorists.
I would love to help you with any questions.

Andy,
Brdjani is little village 7km from Sipovo situated in beautiful valley of Pliva river. It is very popular nowadays for fly fishing. It is a part of bigger village called Pljeva. Chetnics were mainly freedom fighters for the King and Homeland and they fought nazis until end of the war when they were fighting communists too. Truth is that they were killing muslims and Croats because by majority they were ustashis - nazi allies. Greetings from Republic of Srpska!!!
