"Chaos, Corruption in Bolivia..." Sounds like business as usual regardless of who is running the country.

Bolivia was, is and probably will continue to be the second poorest country in the western hemisphere behind Haiti. That the Haitians are more corrupt, lazy and destitute than the Bolivians is really pathetic.

And then there is selfishness wrapped in the cloak of patriotism and virtue. Autonomia as envisioned by the cambas will result in more of Santa Cruz's money remaining in Santa Cruz. Which of course would result in more money being locally available for corruption in Santa Cruz. That is speaking hypothetically of course because as we all know, the cambas are paragons of nobility, ethical behavior and virtue. NOT.

penalizing the cambas for what the cholas call years of oppression is not the answer... they need to slowly build the bridgeso that both cultures can exist peacefully... I wonder if Obama as president would try the same thing?

I am from Bolivia, from La Paz. As far as I remember there was a time that Bolivia supported itself with the mines from Potosi, La Paz, Oruro. Collas did not ask to be Independent, in fact they shared all the resources with Cambas and the rest of the country.

BOLO ... Obama is a radical socialist whose administration (God forbid), from a policy perspective, would be a disaster of Jimmy Carter proportions. Our enemies would have free rein and his administration would generate animosity between the races blacks.

Those good old days are long gone. The Cambas are too selfish and self-absorbed to think of anyone other than themselves. When it comes to money, they don't care about anyone except themselves.

This autonomia issue is not as much about freedom or independence as it is about keeping more money for themselves and NOT sharing it with their poorer countrymen. It would be as if a wealthy and mostly white state like Vermont did not want (primarily for racial reasons) to send tax revenue to a state with a lot of blacks such as Mississippi. Strip away the autonomia rhetoric and the majority of the cambas are exposed for what they are: people without honor.

Um, no Bob. I think that your assumptive comment reveals ingrained bigotry on your part (if not outright racism) against the indigenous people. You should move to Santa Cruz, you’d fit right in with the hijitos de papa.

I've been to Santa Cruz. Has nothing to do with a persons race. I live in China, surrounded almost exclusively by Chinese. Has to do with people who want or beg or steal, instead of hard work, creativity or education. Sounds like you are the racist

What you said about the indios was obviousley the talk of a racist gringo person. We do not want your kind of person in my country.

Bob, It seems that you do not know the history of Bolivia. Perhaps you need to do your homework before you keep posting these kind of comments.

Bob, you live in China and are "...surrounded almost completely by Chinese"? Really? What a profound observation. I am so surprised. I would have thought that you might be almost completely surrounded by Icelanders or Tanzanians.

I also think that you are a racist. You are the one who made the comment about the indigenous people implying that they are beggars and thieves. And your use of the word ‘surrounded’ when referring to your situation in China implies that you feel uncomfortable being around Chinese people and perhaps Asians in general.

The point is that I could hardly be racist living in a community where I am the only person of my race. Additionally, I made no reference to any race or group in Bolivia. Race is irrelevant. What is relevant is attitude. There are those who want to work hard, be creative, and get an education to improve their lives. Then there are those who become jealous, and instead of emulating the successful, they want to beg or steal from them. Now if you want to automatically assume I am referring to one group, I wonder what that means

You're a racist who doesn't like being called a racist. I can understand that.

So you tell me to be quiet instead of addressing the issues? Hmmm. Tell me, why don't you work on the real solution? Provide an education for the unfortunate poor so they can be productive and rise out of poverty
