Austrian incest victim in critical condition

It is extremely hard to comprehend how any human being can exhibit this type of behaviour. When you factor in that Josef Fritzl is the person responsible for the the personal hell he inflicted on his daughter, makes my heart pour out in pain for the entire family. Please keep the country informed on what punishment Mr. Fritzl will have through the courts. I would also like to know what is being done to assist the family with this horrific ordeal.

Since Josef has run the family into financial ruin as well as emotional ruin... the Austrian government is setting up a fund help fund their needs. They will need over 2 million must for medical and psychiatric help. Apparently Elisabeth is due about $87K in back payments for support from the government. I’m not quite sure what that is for. Some European countries give every mother support for each baby they have… so maybe that’s the source.

They will also need money for private school for the two boys ages 18 and 5. I doubt that Kristen, the 19 year old, will live though her ordeal.

They have no home and no income. Elizabeth and her 18 year old son will most likely never be able to hold a job.

One of the Austrian police said that they thought they were dealing with a monster, only to find out that they are dealing with the devil himself.

This Man J.Fritzl-is a real Monster and should be Punished Accordingly Real Punishement for a Start he should be Forced to work to Demolish that House of Horrors Demolish that House is a MUST--All the Inhabitants of that little Town -in a way are also Responsible for What has Happened and the Police of Course for not Asking Questions when it was Still Possible---That is my OPINION------?

I think they should make Josef Fritzel live in the cellar for the rest of his life under the same conditions he made his daughter and grandchildren/children live. I feel that would only be fair punishment, he probably wouldn't make it 24 years. My heart goes out to Elisabeth and her children I can't even imagine the hell they indured! I pray for them every day!!!!!

I believe Josef Fritzel is full of conceit and was very aware of what he was doing! His judgement day will come may God help him!!!!

I can not sleep lately. That poor girl, all of them. I wish God would lightening bolt the guy but, ah, free will. Hopefully, from around the world, money and funds will go out to this family since the therapy they will need will cost 100's of thousands of dollars. A very very sick man. I was attact on the street yet that pales in comparison to years and years of rape captivity. And she survived!! And had babies without doctors!!! Oh Lord, I pray for her everyday and hope to be able to get some sleep but this story haunts me. My stomach is twisted up in knots.

I want to see some blame on the aunt who knew of the cellar and knew that Fritzel was a rapist and knew that he went down there every morning and knew that her niece was missing! He mysteriously found three babies at their front door? How many clues does a person need? And the mother is disgusting. I will never, ever be convinced that she knew "nothing".

Here, here Eli! Soo many people are saying that the town should have known something, but are conveniently ignoring the fact that that poor girl's mother lived in the house! Did she never wonder where he was when all of the building that it would have taken to extend the cellar was going on? You couldn't have that much refurbishing work done to your home without noticing! Or did she ever try to contact her daughter when she went missing? Forget letters that say don't contact me. A loving mother would still look for her daughter; especially if she was close enough in the area to "drop off" her children on the doorstep.

I agree with you. Even the children are supposed to resembled to their mother and even themselves... How she did not see any resemblence in them with missing woman??? Where were she when he was making cells in the basement and putting heavy gate??? Were there no noise and did she never think why was he going downstairs? It seems case is not as simple as it seems.

Since this story broke all those weeks ago, ive been able to think of nothing else.
Shocking and unthinkable, i have had a hard time trying to come to terms with this crime.
There is one conclusion that ive come to realise though, and that is in the midst of everything, stands one incredible human being.

How many children could find the strength to run away from an abusive father more than once?

who on earth could find the courage to carry on from day to day in solitary confinement in a cellar?

what sort of mother could give birth to seven children without help and stay sane enough to care for, raise, educate and nurture her children without hope of release?

how many victims would be able to stand against their abuser and tell their story, securing their abusers capture?

Yes, Elisabeth Fritzel has always been and still is and incredible woman.

I believe that as the world around Elisabeth slowly forgot about her, God never did! She has been given immense strngth to cope, and I pray,[and I would urge others to pray the same] that she will never lose her hope, her will to survive, and that she will be able to see a future for her and her children, without too much pressure from the world media.

Elisabeth has many years left! Take heart from her story. It is ultimately a triumphant one!

the problem with her is, she see's evil, hears evil and just turns a blind eye,

Beautifully said. Here is the latest on Elizabeth, the strongest woman I know. I've been abused and left with my kids but I never had to go thru that. I believe it is the strength thru GOD because that is what got me strength to drive 12 hours, with all the kids toys and papers in the van, to freedom at my Mom's. All by myself. I didn't have a car either I had to drag the kids around to find one. And he left me completely broke but I made it on 200 dollars, to Mom's.

Now, I have a good life, I'm free and very happy. The kids aren't effected since they were so young. I'm remarried and have a wonderful husband that the kids call daddy, since he was there in their youth, and I have never saved so much money with anyone else in my life. He loves me and is a good man. All the way driving, that 12 hours, I prayed to GOD that I'd make it and if I did I would go to church every week. Which I have kept my promise.

Looks like Josef Fritzl will not be coming out of jail after all. I'm against the death penalty and I am a passifist. But...honestly, this is the best news I've heard so far. Justice. God is smiling and protecting and making us all more aware in our daily lives to what is important.
