Well, seeing that the Australian Military has been constantly called the best trained fighting force in the world, i'd say we'd have a good chance at fending of an attack.

I read a proposed strategy seeing if Australia was invaded, experts believe they would invade from the east coast, and fight us from their. One previous high ranking military officer suggested that the Australian forces pull back to the East Coast, and hold a line of defence in the Blue Mountains and other mountain ranges. Allow the invaders to suffer the trek from the west to the east, through inland.

Then, they would fight an guerrilla war, and hope for the allies of Australia (particularly America/UK and China, YES, I said it!) who have much more resources at their disposal to give us aid.

I doubt anyone would invade from the West - yes - they'd gain or shut down a lot of mineral exploration, but then all they'd get is Perth.

Having massively tipped their hand they'd have to march across the Nullabor to face whatever resistance we can muster to f*ck them up along the way.

Australia's probably too big to take over effectively unless the enemy has a LOT of men in boots and well oiled logistics.

Mercantile gain as in mines and agriculture to support their own country as in colonial times when the same was done to them.
