I don't listen to much contemporary rap but lyrically it is impressive and I can definitely relate to it. It's also good that Everlast is still going in his 40's. It used to be that artists in their 30s and 40s would start playing it safe and make boring MOR mainstream crap and grandma music, and it was the younger artists who took risks, pushed the creative boundaries and kept music alive and fresh. Now it is the other way around in a lot of cases, especially with the recent 80s synth fetish that had a lot of the younger acts sounding like 80s pop-group cover bands and all sounding the same as each other. I've heard many younger alternative artists and groups being described as 'workmanlike'. Competent but not inspiring or exciting at all. A bit sad really.
