At the bottom, of course, lies hate. I am not quite clear why our modern crop of Christians hates homosexuals, as opposed to ignoring or even politely dismissing them, but they very clearly do.

how about that Mr Greg Craven is vice-chancellor of the Australian Catholic University

"Greg Craven is vice-chancellor of the Australian Catholic University"

I wonder how many altar boys were nervous around Mr Craven?

*sigh*

Or at the least? How many times Mr Craven turned a blind eye to catholic priests who were guilty?

Glass houses, Mr Craven.

Glass houses.

No. At the bottom lies fear: a fear that his arguments can't withstand other voices being heard. If his arguments had any merit, he would welcome the challenge to the catholic stranglehold on power that atheists pose.

Craven lives down to his name. Look up the definition of the noun.

People like Craven bring themselves undone by their hypocrisy, contradictions and complete denial of what they really represent. What would really amaze me is to find someone who believes in god that can speak honestly and informatively, most haven't got a clue other than what they've been told by people like Craven.

His attitude shows where his personality lies, in the gutter.

In an average week of atheistic bigotry in the Melbourne media, we can expect to learn that Catholics endorse child molestation, hate all other religions, would re-introduce the crusades and the auto de fe at the slightest opportunity, despise women, wish to persecute homosexuals, greedily divert public moneys for their own religious purposes, subvert public health care, brainwash children, and are masterminding the spread of the cane toad across northern Australia.
I would say that the Melbourne media is above average in accuracy. The attributes, desires, and habits of the catholic save one is correct.

Have you noticed that Christians accuse atheists of the very things that they are most guilty of? To what degree is this purposeful on their part? And to what degree is it displacement of guilt? To what degree is it a reflection of internal (to the xtian) truth?

Why do you consider it ok to attack Catholics but not Sodomites?

What an ignorant, hate filled rant.
I don't know if it ever occured to him that the Catholic Church gets the most critisism because of all the evil it has done and continues to do. No other Christian sect comes close.

So let's get this straight. Christians, and Catholics, can "spread the gospel" and it's a good thing. They can crow openly about how right they are and how holy they are and how others will burn in their imagined hell...and it's a good thing. But atheists cannot return the favor and counter their "gospel" or respond about how ridiculously wrong the Catholics are and how their hell isn't even real...no, that's a bad, mean thing. Bad mean atheists!

No, the Catholics would never belittle or mock. That would be wrong. They wouldn't do such a thing...except when they do...in the very article where they whine about being mocked and "attacked", the mock and attack not the atheists, but instead use it as an opportunity to get shots in at other Christian denominations!:

"Second, the Catholics have the undeniable advantage that they do still demonstrably believe in something. Attacking some of the more swinging Christian denominations might mean upsetting people who believe a good deal less than the average atheist."

Holy hypocrisy!

in many cases, those are not different things

but here's why:

Catholics recruit and want to impose their baggage on every one else

Gays and Lesbians, just want to be allowed to live their lives with the same rights as everyone else.

Definitely Gotta love it when their absurd claims of "catholic/christian persecution" are exposed as being more whining by religionists who have LOST most of the power they used to have.

Not to mention that the only way the toxic institution known as the catholic church could STAY in power in previous centuries was to conduct hideous TERRORIST campaigns of torture and murder of all those whose only "crime" was to either question or disagree with the church. Now that the church of cruelty and oppression can't use terrorism to stay in power any more, it is sinking pretty quickly.

Oh PLEASE. Try and deal with the fact that NO church, the catholic church included, is immune from verbal criticism, and the rcc deserves whatever criticism it gets. Sorry the catholic hierarchy is having such difficulty holding on to whatever power it is rapidly LOSING, but their claims of being "attacked" are false.

No wonder the Catholic Church and other mainstream organised religions are losing their control over their sheep, umm, I mean flock. The numbers wanting to join Xian based ministries and attending church have been falling for years. And with someone like Craven espousing his thoughts, errantic and nonsensical as they are, it's no wonder. What a hypocrite he is and still using the old persecution theory. The fire and brimstone has long been a control issue, but many are now seeing things with their own eyes and making their own decisions as to what they choose to believe. Craven is a Vice Chancellor ?? What a learning tool, emphasis on the word tool, he is. To each their own and so it should be, but not harming others.

Catholic Church had been spreading hate and lies about other religion for centuries.

But can't take it from others?

You might ask the 100+ boys molested by the catholic priests. But the rcc has brought a lot of new items to the masses during it's long tenure. The nunneries which took in wayward and promiscuous girls and trained them to be prostitutes to raise money for the church. The The murder of the only female pope, when the bishops found out she was a female, not a male. The crusades which set off to conquer the pagan and upstart Muslims. Three hundred years of torture and murder of women because they had been accused of being witches, only to declare, finally, oops, there are no such beings as witches. A priesthood full of sodomites who were covered up by the church for centuries. What a wonderful history to live up to.
