Russia May Legalize Possession of Handguns

Now the Russian muslims who are being beaten and murdered each day in Moscow and St. Pete can have the means to defend themselves from the racist nationalists.
But, the first selected catagories will only be selected upon Kremlin friendly groups. And there, it will remain.

No one can answer for a nut. Everyone has them. It's unfortunate but true. Discussion has been had over here on that subject and actually more could have possibly have been killed if he would have used another method. He trained himself in the use of explosives. His apartment was rigged with them. As I'm sure you are aware, you can make a bomb out of almost anything. Had he done this, more people would have been killed. It doesn't matter what laws you have in place. If some nut wants to kill people he can find a way to do it and there is not much that can be done to stop it. Look at your own country as an example. Russia has very strict gun laws. Has it stopped the criminals from having them?

To be honest the "More effective weapon" would have been a bomb, wouldn't it? Don't confuse Hollywood with real life here. Getting a fully automatic weapon is not an easy thing to do and is VERY expensive, just as it is in your country, if you can get one at all. If you get caught with it and don't have the proper license they lock you in a room and throw the room away. Besides this, unless you KNOW how and have been trained to use one a full automatic is not that easy to use and is very unwieldy at best. All he had were semi-auto weapons. It really doesn't matter. If he had the thought in his head to go kill people he was going to find a way to do it. Gun or no gun.

A very good post, well thought out, Maxie. But, if the "joker" did not have the means to obtain firearms, he could have devised a very powerful bomb and done more destruction. He is just a unique case. He is a nutjob, and highly educated. He did booby trap his apartment with bombs, etc. and his sole goal was to kill and maim as many as possible. Without firearms in the equation, he still would have carried out his "mission" by other means.

Russia has one of the worlds strictest gun controls in the world. It also has one of the highest homocide rates as well. The USA, with gun ownership lawful, we are in the bottom 30 in the world with firearm homocides. SWG had some good points to support my position.
If, during those encounters you noted, no firearms were present, the same lethal result would have happened to you if they had knives.
From my understanding, the Russian law would only allow firearms to be used to protect your home and business. Not to carry concealed weapons in the public.

In the USA, what the media does not report much, is the number of robberies and home invasions that were stopped by the homeowners using weapons to protect themselves and families. Or by trained civilians in those states were carrying concealed weapons is legal.

In any regard, because of political reasons, I doubt that such will become a new law, unless it is just a political means to arm supporters of Putin, et al.

Not really. A bomb like the one used in the Timothy McVeigh Oklahoma City bombing would be far more effective... mainly because it was made from readily available materials... if you actually know how to build such a bomb...

Not from materials which one would think to ban.
