Hi guys!

I'm an algerian living in UK. My last visit to the country was in summer 1993. So I suppose a lot has changed since. I'm trying to appreciate or have a perspective on the cost of living in the country. I would appreciate it if someone could give me an idea of the cost of some typical items in Algiers such as a cup of coffee, a pizza or sandwich, a pair of trousers and a rental for a 2 room flat.

Many thanks
Algerino

Many thanks Algerino for the information.
Yes it has been a long time since I set foot in my country.
Last time as I said was in summer of 93, when I took my daughter to see her Grand Parents. It didn't feel safe then as our Country was going through political turmoil. Thank god it has gotten better since.

Anyway... many thanks again

I have just returned from Algeria. Married to an Algerian as well. You will be fine. Just stay close to your husband and family. Expect people to stare at you, but they would do no harm. Families are very warm and welcoming. Any more questions?

Just be careful, you need your husbands permission to bring your children back out of the country (Algeria).

To White Alger: you can call me ignorant but here is the law as dictated by the british embassy. YOU ARE THE IGNORANT ONE!

"British women who are the wives or partners of Algerian citizens should be aware that any children they have together will be regarded as Algerian citizens if the father's name is on the birth certificate. If such children are brought to Algeria and are under 18, they will only be able to leave again if the father signs an "Autorisation Paternelle"."

There you go. Really think about it before you go...if you have ANY DOUBTS... don't go...if it is that important get visas for your husband's family and get them to visit you. Don't listen to people like White Alger they only want to paint a pretty picture of Algeria but the ask the question why are most of the 18-35 year old Algerian men abroad and marrying EU women....ummm I wonder.

Anyway, I am just letting you know the truth. For G*d's sake call the British Embassy BEFORE YOU LEAVE and educate yourself with the FACTS.

Good luck, I only wish you the best.

Saha.

I have a question that maybe someone can answer. My bestfriend has meet a Algerian man over the internet and he seems so sweet, very educated and very sincere that he is in love wiht her. However, they have only known each other for 5 weeks and she is leaving her life behind in America for this man, whihc includes her children as well. I am trying to be understanding and I know that love comes in all shapes and sizes, but what is wrong with Algerian women that he needs to find my friend on the internet in a different country. I am trying to be supportive, but someone please shed some light on this, I am so helpless that she will get hurt or something bad will happen to her. I have traveleld all over the world while active duty and I am not sure about thsi feeling that I am gettng and why I am getting it. Thank you so much if anyone can help me!!!

Dear Mohamed
I hope you a happy marriage without any trouble..
As for the document you need to make an appointment at a registry office and preper you wifes payslips and prouf of address and her ID
(passport or drivers licence),and as for you all you need to preper is prouf of ID and that you are legal in the UK .Then the british government may ask you to go and get married in Tunis cos we dont have their embassy yet in Algeria.
The marrige in the embassy is as follows ..
you need an appointment and two witnesses and i think a sum of 200 pounds but you lookit through here in the embassys web and good luck
